"Marine Private First Class Joshua Kendall Monnett has been bailed out of a Mexican jail by military officials and is back in the U.S. tonight.

The 24-year old Monnett was wounded in the eye earlier this week after Mexican authorities opened fire on him after they say he tried to avoid a roadblock on the main road heading out of Rosarito."

There's a news clip showing Monnett w/eye bandage at the link.

DA in Mexico is expected to file 6 charges ("including possession of an M16, a bulletproof vest and ammunition magazines) Thursday against Josh, which (according to the news clip) could get him 15 years in prison!

There are currently “two versions” of what happened in Mexico ... and "the Marine Corps and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service are looking into the incident.

Military authorities based in Ensenada who are investigating said the Mexican military asked Monnett to stop his vehicle. They said Mexican marines opened fire shortly thereafter. They did not release details of what led them to shoot.

Monnett had no military weapons with him at the time, base officials said."

In other words, no "M16"! :waitasec:
