A man has plowed his truck into a crowd of shoppers, getting out and launching a stabbing frenzy, killing at least seven people.
According to the country's Kyodo news agency, he told police: "I came to Akihabara to kill people.
"I am tired of the world. Anyone was okay. I came alone."
As well as the dead, at least 14 people have been left injured after the attacks, it has been reported.

Apparently not tired enough of this world to off himself! :furious::furious::furious:

he was arrested . . .

"I came to Akihabara to kill people. It didn't matter whom I'd kill," he was quoted by Jiji Press as telling police.
By the time Kato dropped his knife at the gunpoint of a police officer, 17 people lay bloodied on the street of the crowded district, according to fire department and police officials.
Jiji Press and other Japanese media said that *six people were dead -- five men aged 19, 20, 29, 47 and 74 and a 21-year-old woman -- marking a rare deadly crime in a city famed for safety.

*The first story i posted says 7 people dead.

OMG, I just hate reading this stuff as DD left for Japan last Wednesday. She's only 17 and doing an exchange for the summer and luckily is in Yokohama. She also went last year when there was a typhoon and then an earthquake. Japan has such a reputation as a safe place and it's such a tragedy to read about this.

She'll be fine, i'm sure.

The Supreme Court on Monday finalized the death penalty of Tomohiro Kato for the vehicular homicide and stabbing spree that left seven people dead and 10 injured on the streets of Tokyo’s Akihabara neighborhood in 2008.

The indiscriminate killing spree was carried out based on Kato’s “meticulous preparation” and “determined intent of murder,” Chief Justice Ryuko Sakurai said...

The Tokyo District Court’s ruling stated that Kato drove past the intended crime scene three times before he was able to launch his attack, an act of hesitation it said suggested he was aware of the gravity of what he was about to do.
