Health officials yesterday called for a safe sex campaign aimed at the middle-aged after a sharp rise in sexually transmitted infections in the over-45s.
Cases more than doubled among the age group between 1996 and 2003, according to figures compiled from 19 sexual health clinics by the Health Protection Agency.
Doctors said the rise could be a result of more older people being single or beginning new relationships and being less likely to use condoms because there was a much lower risk of pregnancy. Internet dating and drugs for impotence were also likely to play a role, they added.

Interesting! I knew there were several good reasons to quit dating! :soldier:

Well I can guarantee you all with 100% certainty that I have not caused any of this!!!

Thats cuz all these dirty men are going and hiring hookers or sleeping with young girls that have stuff, then they are taking it home to wifey. Just yucky lol

I think it's also because more and more over 45 year-olds are having 'flings' and one night stands.

Plus that generation has always been a little "loose."

:silenced:

JK!

Darn Viagra and Cialis commercials!

Aren't these the folks that preached safe sex to my generation??

I blame this all on Viagra and Madonna.

Predicted New Trends:

You'll see Viagra Plus with penencillin added.

Each 6 months of paid dating site registration requires a health screening.

Condom companies providing coupons for prescription antibiotics on their packaging.

The development of instant blood tests for hiv, similar to diabetes sugar testers.

I find these news releases of studies to be sensationalized. They don't really explain the methodologies involved in collecting their data. They did mention that the results were from a sexual health clinic. Maybe that skews the data. How many cities did this data come from? Did they get data from people who are treated by their private doctors? Are the people visiting a sexual health clinic a representative sample of the population in that age group? It looks very unscientific to me and I find it very suspect.

Funny, yet scary!

I'm only 40, but I've always dated and been friends with older men and have seen a trend in my own unscientific method of seeing. As they age, MANY men have... difficulties. Condoms sometimes are the only things that make the difficulties into impossibilities. If it comes down to unsafe sex or no sex, few men I've ever met consider no sex. It's very sad. I'm going to have to start dating younger men.
