A former Indianapolis man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after killing a man who was his friend and boss.

Charles David Doss, 50, pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary manslaughter as part of a plea agreement with the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office...

He didn’t plan to hurt or kill Brown, who had been his friend and employer for about eight years, Doss told the court. But he became upset after the interaction with Brown inside the home, as the two prepared to get into Brown’s truck. Doss reached on the floor of the truck to get his cigarettes and saw a handgun, which belonged to Brown. He picked up the gun and shot Brown in the back of the head, he testified.
