The island where "Jaws" was filmed had a real-life shark scare Thursday, when an unconfirmed sighting of a great white forced the closure of two beaches.

South Beach on Martha's Vineyard was closed for a short time, and swimmers were kept out of the water at State Beach in Edgartown, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation said.

A plane was dispatched to try to confirm the sighting, but no shark was spotted, said Lisa Capone, a spokeswoman for the state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

Well...their just gonna need a bigger boat.

I heard this was a hoax by some guy there. No link, but that's what I heard on tv. What a jerk ruining vacation time for all those people!

I read the same hoax story this morning. Ill try to find the link.

Humm.... Is anyone else seeing a possible sequel to the movie? "Revenge of Jaws, The Offspring"...

Why do people do things like this?

A 60-year-old Boston man is facing a charge of disturbing the peace for allegedly concocting a story about a shark sighting off a Martha's Vineyard beach Thursday morning.

From the article:

"The island's South Beach had closed earlier in the morning, after lifeguards reported possibly spotting a great white."

So maybe there was one after all. The lifeguards reported the shark before the man's hoax.
