Family: Cary woman felt trapped in U.S.

    (Raleigh) News & Observer

CARY --Canadian Nancy Cooper was trapped in America, her family indicated in court filings.

Cooper, whose body was found Monday by a storm drain near her home in the Raleigh suburb of Cary, didn't have a visa to work in the United States, friends and family said.

This spring, months before she was killed, Cooper, 34, wanted to go home, ........

    Nancy Cooper investigation

    Family: Cooper stuck in U.S.
Before her death, the Cary woman had wanted to return to Canada, court papers say

    ..................snip..................

Legal wrangling over the care of Isabella, 4, and Gabrielle (called "Katie"), almost 2, offered a window into Nancy and Bradley Cooper's troubled marriage. Nancy's father and sister were granted emergency custody of the girls Wednesday night. They said in court documents that Bradley Cooper posed a threat "to the physical safety of the children."

Bradley Cooper's attorneys declined to comment Thursday............

Family of murdered woman wins custody case

    .............snip...................

The couple moved to Cary, a suburb of the high-tech hub of Raleigh, eight years ago when Mr. Cooper got a job offer with Cisco Systems.

"It's really hard to look in the mirror," Nancy's twin sister, Krista Lister, told reporters at a tearful news conference yesterday in Edmonton. "When I see myself walking I do a double-take. It's Nancy

Nancy Cooper's family: Children 'our primary concern'

    Posted: Jul. 18, 2008
    Updated: Jul. 18 7:02 p.m.

Cary, N.C. — Family members of Nancy Cooper say their "primary interest" right now is the wellbeing of her two young daughters, and they plan to take them back to Canada this weekend.

"Our primary concern is care of these children, and that what we do is not going to hinder or hurt them in any way, and we're being very cautious," Donna Rentz said of her grandchildren during a news conference Friday.

The family also announced a public memorial service for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park. They will also hold a small private vigil Friday evening for family, close friends of Cooper's and invited guests.

    Slain jogger's family get custody

    By THE CANADIAN PRESS

CARY, N.C. - The family of a former Edmonton resident slain in North Carolina said Friday it was weighing how to tell her two little girls about the grim fate of their mother.

Nancy Cooper's daughters, Bella, 4, and Katie, 2, are being cared for by the family, in particular their mother's twin sister Khrista Lister, who they sometimes call "Khrista mom." The family believes the girls don't know their mother was killed and that her death is the subject of a police investigation.

Is husband secret focus in slain mom case?
Expert: Decision to give children to relatives suggests police suspect spouse

The husband of slain North Carolina mother Nancy Cooper has not been named a suspect in her killing, but the fact that a judge agreed with her family that Bradley Cooper “posed a danger” to their two children suggests police may be investigating the spouse, a legal expert said Friday.

“To take the kids away from a biological parent is a big deal,” NBC chief legal correspondent Dan Abrams told TODAY’s Natalie Morales. “It tells us that they’re looking at the husband.”

    Cooper's lawyer says he's innocent

    From Staff Reports
    Comment on this story

Brad Cooper did not kill his wife and wants to mourn her death in private, his attorneys said today at a brief news conference.
Lawyer Seth Blum said he and lawyer Howard Kurtz called the gathering because of wild speculation about the slaying of Nancy Cooper, whose body was found Monday in a subdivision under development in Cary.

"The bizarre and unsupported theories floating around television and the Internet have made it impossible for us to sit quietly and to say nothing," Blum said. He did not discuss the theories, saying that could jeopardize the investigation.

Parents have harsh words for Cooper's killer

CARY -- Nancy Cooper's parents spoke out for a second time Friday about the circumstances surrounding their daughter's death, and they had harsh words for her killer.

"I would like to know why," Cooper's mom, Donna Rentz, said.
Unable to finish her sentence, Rentz tried to find the words the family hopes will reach the ears of the person responsible for Cooper's death.

Memorial Service For Cooper Set For Today

    CARY, N.C. -
A memorial service will be held this afternoon for Nancy Cooper at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary.

A Private memorial service was held Friday night for Nancy Cooper at the preschool her daughter Bella attended.

Candles were lit, memories were recalled and songs were sung for Nancy. Among the songs shared, the hymn, "Let It Shine."

As those attending the service sang, the sun broke out from behind a bank of storm clouds which had drenched the area minutes before.

It was as if the heavens themselves were crying over the Lochmere neighborhood where Nancy lived.

Then, moments before the service began, a rainbow spread across the sky. For some attending, it was an touching moment.
