STUART — Two new programs put into place Thursday at the Martin County Sheriff’s Office can help track people with Alzheimer’s Disease, autism and other cognitive disabilities if they wander off.
The Return Safe Program and the Project Lifesaver Program are voluntary and give law enforcement a quicker way to find individuals with cognitive disabilities when they go missing.
“It’s sort of like a Lo-Jack for people,” said Sheriff Robert Crowder. “We can use the locators to find them. It’s quicker to find them and the timeliness of making that identification is urgent.”
