Ok--Russell DeVor attended a birthday party with a George Rogers.
    Poughkeepsie NY Daily Eagle 1934 - 1823.pdf

And here he is listed as ARTHUR RUSSELL DEVOR, and was sentenced to jail for a DUI!
    Poughkeepsie NY Daily Eagle 1935 a - 4534.pdf

    and here:
    Poughkeepsie NY Daily Eagle 1935 a - 4391.pdf

He was listed for draft in 1941:
    Poughkeepsie NY Daily Eagle 1941 - 2362.pdf

Since his correct name appears to be Arthur Russell Devor, I did a SSDI, and there is an Arthur DeVor who was born Feb 06, 1913 and died in July 1969. It does not list last known state of residence, but lists that the SS was issued in NY. This has to be the right one, because in the article about his DUI (in 1935) it lists that he is 22, which would make a birth year of 1913.

I could not, however, find a SSDI for Margaret? Do you have a copy of her death cert. in the box from hell?

Opps, I found something, do not know if it means anything...
I found a Margaret Brody, who was born in Pennsylvania. She was born April 25, 1924 and died in Sept 1965. This could be her because if Margaret Kukoda was in nursing school in 1941, she would have been 17-20 yrs old, correct? That would make a birthdate of 1924 reasonable. Does anyone thing Margaret and George were married, or did he just list her as that so that he could get her benefits?

Nevermind---I see Margaret died in 1967. I knew that...

I did find a SSDI for a Margaret Bennett, with a death of Aug 1967, with last residence of Mill Valley (Marin). Any chance this could be her? The social was issued in NY. and the birthdate is Oct 9, 1895

    Margaret Thomas
birthdate of June 1 1902 -death Aug 1967 from Oakland, and the social was issued in Ohio.

Margaret Bruner: too old I think!?
Birthdate of Sep 4, 1885 -death Aug 1967 from San Francisco, social issued in CA.

If we are sure that Margaret is from PA originally, then I found the following:

    Margaret Adams:
birth: Oct 9, 1918 death-Aug 1967 No last residence, social issued in PA.

    Margaret Hegedus -too young??
birth: Feb 24, 1927 death Aug 1967 No last residence, social issued in PA

Does anyone know the history of the social security number? Since social security did not start until the 1930's, did people get the social sec. number from their birth state or from the state they were living at the time? If so, maybe her social was issued in CA? (Sorry, thinking aloud, excuse my stream of thoughts...) If so:

    Margaret Walton:
Birth: Sep 4, 1902 -death Aug, 1967 Last residence San Francisco

Ok--it is late, I need to get some sleep--will research more tomorrow!

Jules, not sure where you are going with all these Margarets! Margaret Kukoda was Margaret Kukoda only. Never married. Margaret was born in New Jersey in the spring of 1917 and died in Aug 1967.

A visitor of the forum has sent an e-mail to Dr. Doogie and I sharing with us that MK's California nursing license was issued in 1947. Our guess is that 1947 was the year she left the Army and applied for a civilian nursing license. Hmmm, wasn't she charged in 1952 or 1953? Maybe it was 1947 when she went to California?

    Licensee Name: KUKODA MARGARET MARY
    License Type: Registered Nurse
    License Number: 58266
    License Status: REVOKED
    Expiration Date: April 30, 1958
    Issue Date: January 31, 1947
    County: SAN FRANCISCO
    Actions: No

Thanks PS for sending us the tip!

I will post Margaret's death certificate if necessary. Although it does give her birthplace as New Jersey, it is important to remember that she had been comatose for quite a long time, that she had no family members in San Francisco that we know of, and that George Brody was her official legal guardian and probably provided at least some of the information. According to the death certificate, Margaret died on her 50th birthday; however, the year in the date of birth has been changed. The DC says that the length of stay in the county of death (SF) was 30 years and that the length of stay in California was 30 years (this was as of Aug 3, 1967.)

Ok. I guess where I am going with this is that Margaret is not listed in the social security death index, that I can find. I even plugged in the social that Sidekick provided. Nothing. If she has a social, doesn't she have to be listed? I guess my point is that how do we know for CERTAIN that she never married, and how do we know that George did not change her last name for some reason on the death cert. I am still an amatuer with this research, so perhaps I am not looking in the right places, but I would think that she would have to be listed somewhere, correct? Sorry if I am hurting, rather than helping the search.

Thanks Raf! I do see that she is listed in the California death index, so that mystery is cleared up. Am I incorrect on the info I found for the Arthur R. DeVor too?

We do know that the date of birth is listed incorrectly on the death record. iW has found her date of birth in the Spring of 1917. I think when they realized they put the date of death in the wrong spot, they only went back and fixed the year only.

We have already made contact with the crematory and funeral home and was unable to get any more information.

Hi, from what I understood, by articles, it seems that Russel DeVor was a garageman... working to gas station also... made some little car accident... also he appear in some article as mechanic for car competions...

the parents of Russell ( or Russell Arthur DeVor) had a decoration farm in the town, and the father was also chairman of a association... abt the decorations, MK made large use for many party, I have some articles also... I believe that Russell DeVor was the boyfriend of MK for some time.. from 1941 article, the name's sequence let me think this....
    but
in 1930 census the family:Home in 1930: Hyde Park, Dutchess, New York

1.Charles A Devor age 51 Birth 1879 New Jesey-occupation: mechanic in garage( son of Arthur and Eliza E Devor; home in 1900 Newark, Essex, NJ; in 1910, Newark, Essex, NJ: Charles A De Vor head, profession: confectioner + Eveline Devor wife; children: Everard/birth 1904; R Earl/birth 1906, L Eveline Devor/birth1910
    2.Eveline Devor age 53 birth 1877 New Jersey-none
    3.Russell A Devor age 17 birth 1913 New Jersey-none

    in 1935
Arthur Russell DeVor, 22, of 24 Hooker avenue-gas station

    in 1936
    living in 95 South Hamilton-married...

    in 1941:
Arthur Russell DeVor, 45 North Hamilton street

MK was a beautiful girl, and maybe some thing between she and Russell could be happen..
since MK seems staying in California from 1943, and the last infos that we have are of 1941, from this year to 1943 she was in some part... but where...?

    Margaret

Any idea why the death certificate, which did not appear to have "the official seal" was dated in 1982 if she died in 1967? Just an aside, I actually worked at Vassar Hospital as a teen many, many years ago. There were two hospitals that trained nurses in the area. This was the one for those who were not Catholic.
