American Airlines Emergency landing

So, an Amercian Airlines jet has a blown tire and the news is breathlessly waiting for it to land at LAX, giving us the blow by blow and the talking head says the following, "One of the tires has blown out, that is a tire near the landing gear." Whew, good thing it was a tire near the landing gear.

I'm sure it is going to be fine.

I remember there was some kind of landing gear issue flying into LAX on a plane, a few years ago (2005, perhaps). CNN was on top of the report and running it live... after it landed, it came to light that the passengers were watching the reports on their in-flight tvs (that had to be scary as all get out to listen to people talking on the national news about the likelihood of your plane about to crash). I swear I can remember one lady saying that she didn't realize it was the plane she was on, that she was watching!
