The body of a baby boy was found in a trash bin in Long Beach's East Village late Friday afternoon.

A man in an alley in the residential block of 300 Linden Avenue reported his discovery to Long Beach police about

4 p.m., said Police Services Specialist Lisa Massacani.

The body was in a large green rollaway bin, said LBPD Sgt. David Marander.

"Right now, (the baby's) identity and cause of death is still undetermined," Massacani said.

Massacani said the boy was black and approximately 18 months old.

Residents and passers-by gathered outside a police perimeter that sectioned off Linden Avenue between Third and Fourth streets as detectives surveyed the scene.

"It doesn't surprise me," said Alfa Felix, 32, an area resident who noticed the police activity when she picked up her daughter at a nearby school. "There's a lot of bad elements down here."

"I hope they find whoever did this and put him away for a long time," she said.

RIP sweet one. I hope that the killer is found and punished to the max.

So, so sad, and so, so unnecessary. I absolutely HATE these stories. With all my heart, I hope whoever is responsible is found quickly and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. May this sweet child rest in the arms of the angels now.

Ok I think this is the same case. The boyfriend has been arrested. He should be kidnapped & thrown in a dumpster. Screw putting him in jail. That poor baby RIP Nathan.

Actually I would rather see him almost dead and thrown in a dumpster and left to die there. He's garbage and should be treated that way.

Earlier this month Anthony Jerome Hall Jr., a 23-year-old black man, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the beating death of Nathan Coleman, a 1-year-old black boy, whose body was found in a trash bin in Long Beach.

Hall was sentenced April 12, two months after jurors found him guilty of one count of second-degree murder and one count of assault on a child causing death. Nathan was the son of Hall's girlfriend.

Nathan's badly beaten, lifeless body was found Sept. 19, 2008, by a person looking in the trash bin for recyclables.

The toddler suffered at least 11 hard blows to the body, including broken ribs and a severe skull fracture, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

Authorities believe Hall beat the child in downtown Los Angeles, put his body in a trash bag and then took public transportation to Long Beach, where he dumped Nathan in the trash.

Nathan Coleman, Rest in peace.
