I sincerely believe that Burke is saddled with the responsibility of KNOWING what happened to JB that night, and not being able to tell anyone. There are statements he made that totally go against what both JR and PR said, like whether JB walked in the house that night or if she was carried because she was "zonked". That poor kid.... he has to ATLEAST know that what his parents said happened doesn't coincide with what he remembers. And if that was really him on the 911 tape, he knows much more. I am sure, even if he didn't witness it, that he knows way more than he ever said. Do you think he will ever say anything? You'd think it would make him end up in therapy someday, at the least!

Who is to say he hasn't already been in counseling - for a long time.
Certainly he does know more. It would be so interesting to know what his parents explained to him about JonBenet's death. I read somewhere long ago that his comment to his parents at the funeral or right after was "Why did JonBenet have to die."
I find that a strange comment coming from a child. Perhaps he was young enough that his parents had never told him about death or had an ocassion to tell him about death.
There's so much we don't know about Burke after the death of his little sister. I find it interesting that the morning of her suppose kidnapping his parents were unconcerned and willing to let him leave the house when they were in possesion of a threating ransom letter. But, later on after the heat was on them, Patsy and John were said to have provided an escort for Burke when he attended school.
When you think of all the publicity surrounding his sister's death and his parents suspected involvement, you have to wonder what has he been through over the years. Isn't he about 21 now?

I sure do hope he has had counceling over the years. The specter of death has surrounded him since early childhood. Starting with Patsy's cancer. Was he given age appropiate information or denial soup (put on that happy face Patsy)? I would think the way they handled that situation is indicative of how they dealt with Jon Benet death.

I think after John dies and Brurke reaches his forties more information might come out. I'll be pushing daises by then! How he lives his life will give us some clues. Does he become a recluse, enjoy extreme sports, marry and be a doting Dad, content with his life's choices or an alcoholic abuser?

We'll just have to wait for the next chapters.

The other person that concerns me is Grandpa Paugh? How did he manage to fly under the radar?

Take Care,
FF

..if he ever has any kids of his own,I think it will certainly make him think!
..but don't think that he couldn't sweep it all under the rug, either, since he was raised to do so.I think perhaps it's inherent at this point, and maybe forever.
..as far as his 'why did JB have to die comment'...I think he overheard Patsy and JR talking, and one of them said something like 'she had to die, there was no other choice'.(due to the vaginal trauma/chronic abuse).I think that's why JR was overheard to say "I'm so sorry",and "I regret...". As well as Patsy saying "We didn't mean for this to happen".Recall also that Patsy, when talking about heaven, said that 'JB had to go there'.emphasis on HAD.

I doubt that Burke could tell us very much we don't already know. I'm sure he didn't witness the garroting, the head bash, the wiping down and redressing, and so on.

She also said to one of her friends...(I don't remember which one)..."Can you please fix this for us", like she was talking about mending a pair of socks, or sewing a button on a coat.

true, I don't think he witnessed her being killed. But he obviously knows that there were a lot of lies told by his parents.... like that she was asleep when they got home. If he was awake during that 911 call, there is another flag for him. And I don't think that's all. Patsy was a drama queen, and I really don't think she was able to be quiet enough while all this was going on for Burke to stay sleeping.
He also knows a lot of the dynamics of the family that we are not privy to. I know he was young, but none of us forget how our family and home "felt" while we were little, do we? I know I remember it clearly.

Of course they weren't concerned about Burke. Why would they be? He wasn't in any danger. If it hadn't been for PR and JR, Jonbenet wouldn't have been either.
I don't find Burke asking that question as odd really. I guess it would depend on how he said it. When my dad died my oldest daughter was 7. She would often ask "why did Grandpa have to die?". And when a friends 3 year old daughter drowned a few years ago, I got the same question from my youngest daughter, who was 4 at the time. But their question was geared toward "I don't understand why God took them" as that was the kind of conversations we were having when the questions came up.
If Burke was in counseling, any good counselor would get him talking about the life altering death of his sister. If he lied, most counselors would see through it. If he told the truth, John would be facing charges (and Patsy too had it been before her death).
I would really like to dig deep inside his mind and find out what he has been carrying around with him for all of these years.

the my twinn doll bothers me tremendously. Not that she gave it to JB. My kids have them. They also have the American Girl dolls with the chapter series books that go with each one. But the fact that she had it displayed in her house after JB died. JB didn't even like the doll. She had only gotten it the day of the murder. So what attachment does she have to it other than to have a plastic mold of her dead child on display (much as JB seemed to be in life)? Honestly I don't think I could have ever gotten rid of it, myself, because it's one of the last things that she ever touched. I tend to be like that. But I would tuck it away for the mental wellbeing of my family and myself.

She also had Pineapple wallpaper in her kitchen, after they moved to Atlanta, after JB's death. And Pineapple was the last thing that JB ever ate.

I know. There is just so much blatant disregard for what SHOULD (and would for most people) bother her tremendously. The things she surrounded herself with, even emersed herself in, would be things that just drove me to my knees in complete agony. I think most people would want to remember only the good times, and push the bad times into that space in the back of the mind, locking it away. I would surround myself with the things that brought FOND memories of my precious child, not things that seemed to be constant reminders of her tragic demise.... that is, of course, coming from an emotionally stable mother who would never harm her precious gifts from God.
But even as I think of these things that she surrounded herself with, I am reminded that she also surrounded her family with them. JR had to also look at the wallpaper every day, knowing that pineapple was his childs last meal. And Burke had to see the doll that depicted his dead sister every day. Really, the pain that PR put her family through in these strange examples, as well as many others, has me completely bewildered. Did she not care about her only surviving childs feelings and wellbeing?
I have read many posts about people referring to Burke as strange, but even despite his DNA coming directly from two of the strangest people to walk this Earth.... and I am now entering into the Nature vs Nurture discussion.... even if he had totally different DNA, say he was adopted or something... he would STILL be atleast a little strange because look at who he had modeling human behavior for him!
I feel so sorry for that kid. I can't say it enough.

I think the MyTwinn doll on display and the pineapple wallpaper are just more indications of how much the Rs distanced themselves from their daughter's death. It isn't so much a deliberate nose-thumbing as it is a complete denial of the details and the almost eradication of her from their lives. As BR put it just days after the murder of his sister:" I just want to get on with my life". Well, it's clear they all did.
As far as what BR knows- I also think he knows much more than we think- I wonder of he has ever had a frank discussion with his parents about it. I doubt it. I think he'd be afraid of the answer.
As far as his involvement- I must admit I vacillate on that one. But even if he was involved- he was only 9 and whatever he might have been exposed to in his young life (sexual abuse, *advertiser censored* - he did have an older brother, college age at the time) he was still a victim himself.
I also agree that if and when he does speak out it will be after his father dies. He may still be financially dependent on him, and in no position to alienate the only parent he has. With his grandparents dead also, who is left? Aunt P? The horror.
It is also entirely possible that he has blocked out a large amount of what happened and truly does not recall it, or remembers what has been told to him.

..I tend to think of Patsy's displays of these things as subconscious confessions.that overrode how anyone else felt;perhaps a confession of some sort helped eradicate some guilt for her? was she saying she was sorry without saying it? I don't know, just a guess, because even if the head injury was truly not intended to kill her,the decision not to call 911 and the rest of it..garroting,etc,surely were.the fact that Patsy did the opposite of what an innocent parent would have done with these items afterwards, speaks volumes as to what was going on in her mind,IMO.

The pineapple wallpaper really gets me,and another thought on it,IMO,is that it shows Patsy and JB,and perhaps BR too..did indeed sit down at the table and have a snack together.this would be perhaps a last fond memory for her,so she chose to display it in her kitchen? JAT.but IMO,(along w the evidence) it also shows the R's lied about the pineapple snack!

..as for the doll...I think she may have seen it as a substitute for JB?IOW,she wasn't there,so put the doll out that was made to look like her,and she was there, somehow,in a sense.(even if JB didn't like the doll).maybe the doll represented how Patsy had wanted JB to be..someone who would dress like her 'mother'.

She also had Pineapple wallpaper in her kitchen, after they moved to Atlanta, after JB's death. And Pineapple was the last thing that JB ever ate.
..and the painting studio in her home....defies all explanation to me.guilty or not,how could she even think of picking up a paintbrush again, much less one that was hers,in her own home, when JB was found with one of her own paintbrushes tied to a garrote around her neck???
..having another basement didn't seem to bother them, either.
I don't know if these could be considered subconscious confessions, but they surely didn't correlate to happy times together.

I know what you mean. I suspect Burke has been pretty well brainwashed, so that he really doesn't have any suspiscions. He no doubt had questions, as a kid. The Rs probably fabricated all sorts of answers for him, all leading back to the mysterious intruder and media "lynch mob" yada yada yada. I'm sure Burke is swallowing the Ramsey version of events hook, line, and sinker.

That's one reason why children make such good victims, Chrishope.

for sure.history can literally be rewritten for a child that age.
In particular,it brings to mind JR's version of events on Christmas morning, and the rest of the day.what he wrote in DOI probably came to be BR's 'recollections' as well.repeat something long enough and pretty soon,a child will start to believe it.plus,JR has to book to say,'no,it didn't happen that way, see, look,it's even in the book!'

Yea, but the mind is a very incredible thing. It's like the happenings of the past are imprinted. They can be wallpapered over, but it never seems to erase the damage done, the truth. It will come out sooner or later...in one form or another. I feel horrible for this kid. Because of his parents, he has no chance at true happiness and total purity with life. He never did.

I've wondered if Burke will spill on after his father is deceased?

I've wondered if Burke will spill on after his father is deceased?

John seemed to suggest something like that. He said, "maybe by the time he's forty, he'll want to talk about it."

Let's see: Burke was ten in January of 1997, so he's 22 now, if my math is right.

That leaves 18 years.
