Woman accused of hitting boyfriend with mounted fish

Something was fishy Monday when police arrested a 25-year-old Saginaw woman they say attacked her live-in boyfriend with a mounted fish.

A state police trooper responded to a domestic dispute about 9 a.m. on Capehart east of Livingston in Saginaw, where a 25-year-old man claimed he was the victim of a knife assault.

The man had several small cuts on his arms, right leg and left shoulder, as well as a bite wound on the same shoulder, a Saginaw police report said.

The woman told authorities she bit her boyfriend back after he bit her first.

That's when she reached for the fish, the report said.

An investigator did not find any knives after inspecting the home, where the couple, which have children between them, have lived for several years, the report said.

Each claimed the other triggered the quarrel, which apparently arose over the boyfriend's efforts to leave the house, the couple told investigators.

She also claimed she was acting in self-defense when she armed herself with a taxidermist's handiwork.

"She could not get away, so she grabbed a decorative fish off the mantle of the fireplace and hit him several times until he let her go," the report said.

"She states that if he has injuries, they could be from the decorative fish she hit him with," the report said.
