Casey Anthony case cited in Orange County judicial campaign.

Now Casey Anthony's name has been dragged into a judicial race.

In an unusually strong attack for a typically low-profile contest, Circuit Court judge candidate Fred Schott on Wednesday accused candidate Jim Turner of possibly breaking one of the "same criminal laws" that put Anthony behind bars.

Reports untrue of letter from Scott Peterson to Casey Anthony

Partial excerpt...
"News tips that California death-row inmate Scott Peterson was writing letters to Casey Anthony turned out to be wrong Wednesday, but not before the story spread across the country.

Several people close to the case told the Orlando Sentinel that the Orange County woman accused of killing her daughter, Caylee, had received correspondence in jail from Peterson, who was convicted three years ago of killing his wife Laci, and unborn son, Conner.

After that information appeared on OrlandoSentinel.com, officials began checking it out. They found that Anthony has never received a letter from the convicted killer. Reporters for the newspaper found that the story may have originated with Anthony, who talked to a corrections officer about mail she received."

11:35 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 30: Casey Anthony’s attorneys are taking depositions today, including from her former boyfriend Tony Lazzaro, who spent time with Casey around the period when her daughter, Caylee, was last seen in June. Others to be interviewed today, according to WESH 2 News reporter Bob Kealing, are an employee of the Amscot where Casey Anthony’s car was found and three workers — from the wrecking company that towed the car. The tow-truck workers told investigators of the strong smell from Casey’s trunk, which prosecutors tests indicate came from human decomposition.

Casey Anthony remains in Orange County Jail on first-degree murder and other charges, with her trial scheduled to start on Jan. 5.

Depositions are taken before trials and are not open to the public. In this case, the witnesses are at the Orange County Courthouse and are interviewed by defense attorneys. Prosecutors may be in the room but can not ask questions, Kealing said.

We are at the courthouse and will update this post if any of the witnesses or attorneys speak with the media. We have a PDF of the interview that Orange County Sheriff’s Office investigators did with Tony Lazzaro.

How will the long-running Casey Anthony story fare in sweeps month?

WKMG-Channel 6 will find out soon: The CBS affiliate will offer a series on the mother of missing Caylee Anthony. The first two reports will air at 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday. By the way, Thursday is the start of the sweeps ratings period.

Even if you've heard enough, keep in mind that Tony Pipitone is the reporter, and he's one of the best in the market.

Pipitone said the series will look at the timeline, starting just before Caylee went missing and going forward. He traces where Casey' Anthony's cell phone was, longitude and latitude, for 45 days. "We follow the pings," Pipitone told me.

The series looks at the people Casey Anthony was talking to and what she was texting.

"We analyze her movements, her activities, her associations and her state of mind," Pipitone said.

There will be two more reports next week in the series and possibly more. Pipitone has been working on the series for the last month.

WKMG General Manager Henry Maldonado said, "Tony has the ability to go back in the story and find elements that have not been reported and give insights into what was happening at the time. He has new information within familiar territory."

And what does Maldonado say to viewers who are sick of this story?

"It will be told in a Tony Pipitone way. It has compelling narrative," he said.

Because it's Pipitone, it will be worth a look.

It should be available after 11 p.m. Thursday at local6.com.
