Friends and family of a 29-year-old Edmonton woman who disappeared without a trace nearly a year ago - after allegedly planning on going to Calgary and working for the Hells Angels - are finding few answers to their questions.

Stephanie Collins says she reported her sister, Shannon Maureen Collins, missing after receiving information that she may have headed south to work for the infamous biker gang in December 2007.

"I was told that she was becoming a hooker for them," 20-year-old Stephanie said.

Stephanie said the last time she talked to Collins was in May 2007, when she had "three legitimate, good-working jobs."

29 y.o, Caucasian, blonde, last seen December 2007, body found June 5 2008 on rural acreage (Belvedere Heights) outside Edmonton, after a farmer’s dog came home with a human skull. Additional remains were found, believed to have been there at least 9 months. (Note: for some reason, another site indicates Shannon's remains were found at Twp Rd 542 and Range Road 225, while my notes indicate Twp Rd 514 and RR 231, so I will try to confirm the location).

Shannon was mother of an 11 year old boy; when her sister last spoke with her in May 2007, Shannon had “three legitimate, good-working jobs; September 9, 2008 (3 mos after the unidentified remains were found), her sister reported Shannon missing after hearing she had been going to Calgary to become a prostitute for the Hells Angels.

It is believed / suggested(?) that Shannon was killed in Calgary and returned to Edmonton.

Decomposition and scavenging animals made it impossible for an autopsy to determine the cause of death on the victim of a cold-case killing from 2007, a court in Edmonton heard Wednesday...

Wruck, a 42-year-old former Edmonton man who dated Collins before she went missing, is accused of killing her. Court earlier heard he allegedly confessed to the deadly deed to undercover police officers in a Mr. Big sting operation conducted by the RCMP.

From June:

An Edmonton judge ruled Thursday that confessions from an RCMP Mr. Big sting operation would be admitted as evidence in the murder trial of a city man accused of killing his girlfriend in 2007...

During the trial, court heard Wruck made several confessions to the killing, saying he had choked her after she badmouthed him during an argument, but then denied everything after realizing the supposed gangsters were police.

The Crown has closed its case, but court heard five more days are required for the defence to call any evidence and final arguments. A date has not yet been set.

Shawn Wruck, 43, was found guilty of second-degree murder in an Edmonton court Friday in connection to the December 2007 death of his girlfriend, Shannon Collins, 29.

"He strangled her to her death," Court of Queen's Bench Justice Donna Shelley said as she read her reasons for her decision.

Wruck was facing a charge of first-degree murder, but Shelley said that although the Crown had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Wruck was responsible for Collins' death, she did not find that he'd planned it.

A second-degree murder conviction comes with an automatic life sentence and no chance at parole for 10 years...

A pre-sentencing report has been ordered, and the matter is scheduled to return to court March 16.

From March:

Shawn Wruck handed life sentence for second-degree murder

On Thursday, Justice Donna Shelley sentenced Collins' killer, Shawn Wruck, to life in prison for second-degree murder. He will not be able to apply for parole for at least 13 years.

Maureen Collins told the court the details of Wruck's confession will haunt her forever. While she read her statement, she clutched a framed photo of her daughter as a five-year-old.

"There is no more trust in the people," Collins read out, her hands and voice shaking.

"This is an ugly world we are a part of," she said. "For me there is no forgiveness for such an ugly act performed on my daughter."
