Hope they break this case soon, seems obvious to me.

(AP) George Weedon hid a tractor behind a false wall on his property, allegedly for a bankrupt dairy farmer who authorities say was trying to conceal assets from his creditors. But Weedon did not keep the secret for long.

For some reason _ A guilty conscience? Cold feet? An ad in the local weekly promising amnesty to anyone involved in the scheme? _ Weedon called up the FBI and told them what farmer Joseph Diekemper was up to.

Two days later, Weedon and his wife were found shot to death, and their home had been burned to the ground.

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - A couple who helped a farmer hide a tractor from his creditors were found shot to death at their rural home just two days after they had agreed to talk to FBI agents investigating his bankruptcy, federal prosecutors say.

No one has been charged in the April 2007 deaths of George and Linda Weedon, whose bodies were found by firefighters responding to a fire at their home near Keyesport, a lakeside resort village about 60 miles east of St. Louis.

It does seem obvious. Strange that they don't have any/enough evidence.

Did the fire destroy the evidence? I'll say playing with fire again.... why do people have the need for false walls? and if they do for personal reasons, why would anyone else know?

If the other neighbors and even his own brother are carrying guns on them since they're scared of this man; then i'll guess he's hiding more "assets" other places as well.
Maybe the town LE is so rural that they don't have the resources to find evidence; or they've not dealt with murders much..

From November 2008:

Joseph Diekemper, 60, of Carlyle, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank and mail fraud, making a false statement to the Department of Agriculture and perjuring himself during earlier bankruptcy proceedings.

Diekemper’s wife, Margaret Diekemper, 64, pleaded guilty last week to a federal charge of conspiring with her husband to commit bankruptcy fraud and agreed to help authorities...

The Weedons were found shot to death in April 2007, just days after George Weedon approached the FBI about the tractor and told an investigator he worried Joseph Diekemper would burn down his house if he ever found out, according to an FBI memo filed in the fraud case. When the couple’s bodies were found, their rental home was ablaze. No one has been charged in the deaths.
