HYANNIS - Police are hunting for the cold-blooded killer who set fire to the body of a troubled but popular Cape Cod teen and left him burning in a 10-foot pit on the edge of a patch of woods.
Authorities today identified the victim as Jordan Mendes, 16, a Barnstable High School sophomore who had brushes with the law but was well liked by his friends. An autopsy is being conducted today........
....A family friend said yesterday neither Jordan Mendes nor his younger brother Mykel returned home from school Tuesday
....Jordan Mendes is the son of Manuel Mendes, now serving a 35-year sentence in federal prison for running a cocaine ring while he was serving an eight- to 10-year sentence in Plymouth County Correctional Facility for a previous drug conviction. At the time, police described Manuel Mendes as the mastermind behind the cocaine ring, directing half a dozen friends and relatives who picked up drugs in New York and sold them on the Cape
