Authorities searching for a missing Halifax County woman found a body of what is believed to be a white woman Wednesday morning in Pittsylvania County, according to a news release from Pittsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor.

Courtney Servais, 30, was reported missing Friday night by family members.

The body was found in a remote wooded area near the 17000 block of the Old Richmond Road or U.S. 360, Taylor said.

The location itself is about 150 yards off of Old Richmond Road and approximately 2 miles from the Pittsylvania County and Halifax County boundary line, he said.

It was a canine from the DOGS-East search and rescue group based out of Northern Virginia that located the body, the sheriff said.

A positive identification of the deceased is pending from the medical examiner’s office, he said.

Husband Says Body is Missing Wife

Pittsylvania Co., VA - It's the news family and friends were holding out hope they'd never hear. Courtney Servais has been found dead in Pittsylvania County. Deputies found Servais's body Wednesday morning. She was hidden beneath boards and debris in Pittsylvania County.

Her body was in the area known as Red Oak Hollow off Route 360 in a remote, wooded area. Servais's husband Steven, got the news around noon. He's the one who confirmed her death for us. Officials aren't yet saying for sure it's Courtney. She was reported missing Friday night. Steven says he saw her that morning sleeping in bed and it was very unlike her to not be at home by the time he got off work.

Investigators from Halifax and Pittsylvania Counties, along with State Police, had been searching for her for about five days before calling in cadaver dogs to assist. It was one of those dogs, that discovered the body Christmas Eve morning.

Her husband, who was too distraught to talk on camera, says he has no idea how he's going to break the news to his three young children, especially with it being Christmas Thursday.

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office has a person of interest in the case. They are holding Dennis Daniel without bond on unrelated charges. Daniel was the last person seen with Servais before she went missing. Pittsylvania County officials will wait to hear from the medical examiner before officially releasing the identity of the body.

The man charged with the death of Southside woman was in Pittsylvania County court Monday morning for arraignment. Dennis Lee Daniel, Sr. was charged with trespassing, burglary and first degree murder of Courtney Servais.

Cameras were not allowed in the courtroom, but we did get a hold of several arrest warrants from the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Department and State Police. They shed light on what may have happened.

According to a statement by Trooper Keith Isom, a trailer was broken into and Servais' car was stolen by a man and woman on December 19th. That's the last day Servais was seen alive. Later, a man called investigators and told them that his father, Dennis Daniel, broke into the trailer park.

Captain George Coleman reveals that Dennis Daniel was overheard in jail "making statements he was going to kill Courtney Servais." That was just before the day she went missing.
The warrant goes on to state, "On December 19th, 2008, Dennis Daniel and Courtney Servais were seen together and Courtney Servais had blood on her face and mouth area. Daniel was seen with a lot of blood on his hands and clothing."

A few days later, the warrant says Daniel made a statement to a witness that he had killed her.

Then on Christmas Eve, Servais' body was discovered, near where Dennis Daniel had been staying on the Pittsylvania-Halifax County line.
No court date has been set.

We're told Daniel chose representation by a court appointed attorney.

At a funeral home months ago, Courtney Marie Servais lay covered — except for one hand for family to hold — while loved ones viewed her body, which had been too brutalized for an open-casket funeral.

Dennis Lee Daniel, 43, was found guilty by jury Monday of first-degree murder, abduction, carjacking and robbery in the Dec. 19 killing of Servais. He received three life sentences plus 10 years and a $100,000 fine...

Servais was the victim of Daniel’s sense of justice, Grimes said. “Her trial began Dec. 5, 2008,” Grimes said of the day that Daniel learned Servais slept with his son... Grimes said that Daniel planned on killing Servais since that day in December.
