SKELETAL REMAINS FOUND IN NORTH MAHONING TOWNSHIP

The skeletal remains found in North Mahoning Township were found in a wooded area near Marchand. Indiana County Coroner Mike Baker said a person walking through the woods discovered the remains Monday around 1pm.
The remains appear to be those of an adult, and Baker says he will work with a forensic anthropologist to determine age, sex and stature. Then, investigators will compare their findings with a list of missing people.
The forensic anthopologist assisting the coroner is Dr. Dennis Dirkmaat of the Mercyhurst College Forensic Science Department in Erie.
The remains have already been sent to the forensics laboratory at Mercyhurst, and Baker says it may take a week before any more significant information is determined.

Marchand is located along Rt. 119, south of Punxsutawney.

The first person that I thought of when I saw this thread was Alicia Bernice Markovich who has been missing since 1987 from Blairsville, Indiana County. She was only 15 at the time she disappeared, but it seems like she is one of the only people that I found from Indiana and surrounding countieshttp://www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/markovich_alicia.html

Yep, Alicia is the only one I have found so far from Indiana County. But there are a few other interesting cases from adjacent counties. For instance. Joey Lynn Offutt, Joey has been missing since 2007 from Sykesville in Jefferson County located 20.7 mi north of Marchand, Idiana County. Incidently Rt 119 is a direct route from Marchand to Sykesville.

Hopefully they are going to be able to make an identification soon, it can give a family closure. It is just so unbelieveable how people go missing without a trace....

May I please ask if they found out any more information about these skeleatal remains found.How long they have been out there ect...Do you have a map of this area?Where there any other newspaper articles written on these remains found?

I'm confused - how do you guys know already that the skeleton is female? the news articles said that they hadn't determined age, sex or stature yet.
 
I am not sure what sex the UID is, I was just speculating because a few of missing people from the area are females, that's all. We don't have a lot of people missing from the western/central PA area so like I said, it was just a speculation......

We were just brainstorming about local cases of missing adults. There are also several males missing from surrounding counties but the majority are females.
 
I also looked to see if their were any updates - but had no luck! I saw on another website (can't remember which one) someone said about Ray Gricar who is missing from central PA.

20 miles from Joey's home. Nothing new on the website as of the amw airing.
 
Here are some possibilities, I went back all the way to 1998 just in case they were off a little bit. I also didnt just pick people who were close to the area because you never know. I think that this could possibly be Edwina Atieno Onyango, she disappeared from Lansford PA in 2007. Her disappearance doesn't exactly fit the time line but she had met up with her estranged husband and disappeared soon after. Her case haunts me because I live near where she disappeared.

can't be. she has all 32 of her own teeth with no restorations, and our UID has a partial denture. sorry :(
