The Clark County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday increased its reward offer for information leading to a missing Vancouver man. Khoi Vu, who is deaf and developmentally disabled, vanished on April 7th.

All efforts to find the 25-year-old man have come up empty. The Sheriff’s office hoped the new $5,000 reward offer would lead to new clues about Vu.

News article from four days after his disappearance:

Khoi Vu's family reported him missing Saturday and then on Sunday, an unidentified woman called 9-1-1 after seeing a story about Vu on television. She told police Vu joined her sons on the basketball court at Ellsworth Elementary School around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Vu's family said they were sure the tip was not a hoax, because of the details the woman shared about Vu and his love for basketball. The woman also said the man was very thirsty and drank a water bottle she gave him in a matter of seconds.

He doesn't seem to be listed at the NCMA, which seems a bit strange.

Another hometown missing person- this one has always frustrated me. A mentally disabled, deaf 25 year old male- who COULD communicate with ASL, writing, and gestures- simply vanishes from the home he shared with parents and in laws. Someone knows what happened to him...

Khoi is still missing after more than 3 years. :(

Khoi's FBI poster: http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/kidnap/vu_k.htm

Khoi Vu was last seen by his family sometime between the hours of midnight and 1 a.m. on the morning of April 7, 2007, at the home which he shares with his family in Clark County, Washington. They noticed he was missing around 8 a.m. on April 7, 2007. Vu apparently left the house without his favorite jacket and his bicycle, which is his primary mode of transportation. He has never disappeared at night before, and has never left the house alone for more than an hour or two at a time.

It's been more than one year since Khoi Vu mysteriously disappeared from his family's home in Clark County, Wash. Khoi supposedly headed to bed after he watched TV with his mom on April 7, 2007, but family members were in disbelief when they discovered that the developmentally disabled 25-year-old was missing the next morning. The FBI, local law enforcement, and Khoi's community remain on the lookout for the missing man and continue to hope for his safe return.

What a sweet smile. What a sad story. May Khoi be safe and happy wherever he is.

I believe someone gained his trust and lured him away, maybe a sexual predator.

I never thought of a sexual predator in his case before but you might be right, Danaya.
It's been so long and I doubt he is still alive somehow.

Clark County Sheriff's Office formed a new cold case team this past summer.

Volunteer investigators, freshly sworn in, begin work on unsolved cases

The story is not a new one — someone is killed and no one is held accountable, or someone goes missing and their suspicious disappearance is never explained.

At the Clark County Sheriff's Office, these cases remain open and are assigned to a detective in the major crimes unit. But with the constant onslaught of new crimes to investigate, detectives often have little time to devote to these cases, some of which date back decades.

But now, the agency has reinforcements: a cold case team.

Khoi's disappearance is one of the 28 Major Crime Unit's cold cases that they'll be working on.

Khoi Vu, 25, was last seen by family members at home, 13110 N.E. 92nd St. in the Orchards area. The family had planned to get up early to leave for Seattle at 8 a.m., but Vu was not in the house. It is believed that Vu is a victim of homicide but that his body was never found. Investigators believe Vu's body was disposed of in a dumpster and remains interred at a landfill near Boardman, Ore.

It's been over a year since this 2007 KATU article about Khoi has been updated. But I don't remember seeing all the pictures at the link before. So it's new to me. I couldn't get the video to play, but it's there and I snipped this sweet photo of Khoi from the preview.

Khoi's been missing 8 years now.
