    Question Questions

    Hi

You have read how I feel about this case but i have a few questions

Why is this not as prominent as Caylee Anthony's case ?
Why do people tend to think the McCanns innocent but ready to as is said over in the USA *fry* Casey?
In Australia everyone knows about missing Madeliene but no one has really heard of Caylee Anthony or Casey Anthony - why do you think that is ?

Does money buy you silence ?
Does money buy you freedom ?

Do you think that Casey maybe got her ideas of a kidnap from this Case of Madeliene McCanns ?

Well so far they have got away with it !

    Hi Jane,

I can't answer all your questions, but I can share with you my thoughts on some of the things you ask.

Here in the UK I don't think there are that many people who think that the McCanns are innocent. Since Maddie *disappeared* I personally have only ever spoke to two people that think they were innocent. The majority I have spoken to believe the McC's hold all the answers as to what did happen to Maddie.

I have spoken to a few people about Caylee, and like you have said about Australia, no one seems to know anything about Caylee here either.

As for money buying you silence and freedom, it really shouldn't but I have a feeling in this case it has. More of a case " It's not what you know, but who you know."

I don't know if Casey got her ideas of a kidnap from Maddies case. I know it's a heart wrenching case about Caylee. I did try and keep up with it by reading posts, but wow they just moved so fast I got totally lost.

What I do know is that another girls was supposedly *kidnapped* here in the UK (Shannon Matthews). This happened last year but thankfully she was found alive. Her mother and the mothers *male friend* are charged with her kidnap. It has been reported in papers that perhaps Maddies disappearance and the money the McCanns were getting through the fund, did in fact make Shannons mother stage her kidnapping.

So far they have got away with it, but please god let's hope its not for much longer.

My thoughts on this, living in the UK:

Why is this not as prominent as Caylee Anthony's case ?

Madeleine's case was pretty big in Europe, because of where the crime occurred, the McCann's subsequent globetrotting and M's pictures...which everyone is understandably sentimental about (just as with Caylee)...

Why do people tend to think the McCanns innocent but ready to as is said over in the USA *fry* Casey?

I am with the OP, there are many who think the McC's know more than they are letting on and there are many conspiracy theories. It has been easier, somehow, for the McC's to 'silence' the media, and sue them, than it might have been in Casey's case, as the States is obviously huge, with lots of local and national papers, etc - We have only a few, so it's probably easier for the McC's legal folk to stop anything they feel is anti-McC... There has also been a lot of stuff put out there in the media about Casey (the 'phone calls, the prison visits, etc), making it easier to condemn Casey as is probably correct - We have not had the same 'access' with the McCann's, but we do wonder why Social Services never questioned them about their clear and reckless abandonment of all the children, while they were out socialising.

In Australia everyone knows about missing Madeleine but no one has really heard of Caylee Anthony or Casey Anthony - why do you think that is ?

I think Australia is still pretty close to the UK (strong linked history, families, immigration, emigration, and so on), and vice versa, whereas the USA is clearly longer independent, if you know what I mean.

America is also huge, sorry for stating the obvious, so for the UK or Australian press to cover all the US's newsworthy stories, including Caylee's would be nearly impossible and expensive for them...

Does money buy you silence ? ) Probably!
Does money buy you freedom ? )

Probably because it is in Europe and not so close to home. There really is so much that is similar.

Why do people tend to think the McCanns innocent but ready to as is said over in the USA *fry* Casey?

The McCann has so much support from high-powered figures, from the Prime Minister to the newspapers. Casey has....her family, that's about it.

In Australia everyone knows about missing Madeliene but no one has really heard of Caylee Anthony or Casey Anthony - why do you think that is ?

Doesn't Australia have a rather large segment of the population that has close ties with Great Britain? If so, I think that may be the reason. To Australia, America might as well be the moon when it comes to true crime.

Does money buy you silence ?

    Absolutely....

Does money buy you freedom ?

Not as easy but...money talks, enough money can buy you just about anything you want. Sad to say.

Do you think that Casey maybe got her ideas of a kidnap from this Case of Madeleine McCanns ?

Actually, Maddie's case is not new, a child dies at the hand of a parent or family member and a story of disappearing or kidnapping is told. Happens alot actually. Saying the smell of death was actually rotten food or a dead animal? What else could you blame it on? Both cases are so similar because of what happened to the children results in what the parents think are logical explanations. The thing they do not count on is the human ability to sense when the truth is not being told.

Well so far they have got away with it !

    So far....

Personally, I think both cases have been equally prominent in the news, but many people in the U.S. aren't actually as obsessed with either case as we are here on Websleuths. My husband won't watch anything about either case because he finds it so depressing. I never talk to anyone in real life about either case except my daughter from time to time.

If there weren't so many strange inconsistencies about the Anthony case, it wouldn't even be news, sad to say. Missing children cases are usually local stories that never make the national news. For some reason, the Anthony case grabbed the national spotlight, perhaps because Caylee was an especially beautiful child, or because of the fact that the family waited a month before calling the police. Most missing children are reported immediately, and most cases are solved for good or bad within hours.

Caylee's case also happened during a rather slow news period, but even so, it was obvious to most people that Casey Anthony's story was suspect from the get go. The McCanns, on the other hand, had the advantage of the very first night--"They've taken her!" dramatic scenario.

A single parent's child disappearing--everyone automatically suspects the parent or the parent's partner, and statistically for good cause. However, the McCanns were an upper middle class couple, well educated, attractive, who were just vacationing together as a family when tragedy struck. (According to their script.) Who wouldn't feel sorry for them and send a check to the fund to find her?

Madeleine's case was pretty big in Europe, because of where the crime occurred, the McCann's subsequent globetrotting and M's pictures...which everyone is understandably sentimental about (just as with Caylee)...

See above...Casey wasn't smart enough to hide or have lawyers hide her text messages where she referred to Caylee as the "brat." Madeleine's parents had all that deleted or suppressed.

Absolutely right...The McCanns bet that their money and their connections would buy them absolution and a continued life with the twins. I think that is why Kate answered so defiantly when she was asked in one of the early interviews if she could sleep at night. It always bothered me that her tone was so defiant--"I sleep fine" for such an innocuous question.

But of course. She was being honest. She sleeps "fine" because she considers everything that happened, worthy for the twin's sake. Madeleine was dead and they could do nothing for her or bring her back; but they could save the twins from the horrors of foster care or parents in jail, etc.

The McCanns had connections that Casey Anthony and thousands like her will never have, and they were smart enough to use them.

Thank you for your input everyone

I just know that Kate is responsible for Madeleines death. I say death rather than disappearance because I believe she is dead.

I dont believe it was intentional, but I believe it was through neglectfulness as a mother and administering a drug, an overdose , or a fatality as a result of administering that drug

I'ts funny because I have been so on the side of "It was a accident" " It was a rage attack" for Casey / Caylee and so hard to believe she could have done this to her own child
Yet with Madeleine I have ALWAYS Believed Kate did it and it irks me no end that she is getting away with it.

I just showed this to Colomom and i was wondering where to put it - does anyone else think this entirely WEIRD

While i was searching for something else in a myspace page came across this in the friends section

Dont you think that photo is a bit off ?

Doesnt that child look dead ?

The hand under the doll ? has nail polish ? or they are red ?

And on the left side between her top and where her pants would be like on her hip it looks like its pulled down ?????????

Something is NOT right about that picture

WTF - she said she "sleeps fine" Omg what a monster see I hate that more than the outrageous behavior of Casey. The Mc's are Sneaky, and using everyone silently where as Casey was up front and in your face about it all. I guess she was 22 where as Kate is what ? 40 odd ?

Really ? is that true ? she said stuff about Madeleine

So sad breaks my heart Madeleine looked such a beautiful child -

    SICKOS the lot of them

Hi Jane, and thanks for the OP.

I totally agree with Colomom with one addition. It seems with the McCanns a new phenom is occurring, and I ha*e seen this new phenom ha*e a play in other cases as well.

That is, to keep the police away from their door, the parents {who usually need to be cleared of suspicion and are looked at first} used a e*ery proacti*e stance in establishing themsel*es as beyond reproach.

In sales we call it the 'presumptie close', you assume the sale. Here it means:

A} They presume the police will not find them suspicious if they are well-backed to show great respect. This creates bold mo*es, like establishing ways to generate money, making connections with famous people, etc.

B} Putting out info that is not true but benefits them, like constantly reminding the world she was abducted, creating a PACT to keep those in the know from talking and saying the wrong thing to the right person, creating a sketch of someone ne*er seen and e*en possibly doing their share of witness tampering, just to name a few.

With the A's they seemed to take a *ery bold approach at first and until the body was found. The same could be said of Drew Peterson.

It just boggles the mind that suspects would ha*e the gaul to try and trump LE to beat them at their own game. It is the new trend. And as those who ha*e done this of late are all intimately connected to their cases, it makes one wonder what is really happening. Thwarting Justice to only ser*e themsel*es.

Also, I'*e belonged here so long and always noticed that any case abroad ne*er gets the media milage that local cases do. It also seems our press is always a bit out of date in reporting on cases like Madeleine's. And so there is seldom any in*estigati*e journalism written and our press just read what is on the wire. Too bad

XOX and Sorry for all the *'s LOLOLOL
