WA - Kylie Ellis, 12, Yelm, 1 December 2008
Kylie is a 12 year old girl who has been missing for about 7 weeks from Yelm, Washington. Her Washington State Patrol poster says she left a suicide note on a bridge over a canal. A posting on Craigs List (not sure who made it) says that she may have been seen since leaving the note. I can't find any news stories on Kylie though.

12 years old....
Something so horrible in her life that she wants to die....
Seems so young for a suicide noteI sat there for the longest time
after you were gone....
thinking about all things we said.....
and all the things we didn't say...
I wonder if you misunderstood,
cause I'm no good when it comes to talking....
And I'm sorry,I didn't know the words.......
to make you stay.

The part that is sadder, is the trend I'm seeing. More and more kids ages 10-13 are now runaways. Usually we don't take the time to search for runaways due to the percentage that do it again after being found. We focus more on the kids that don't have a choice on being missing. None the less, we've recently changed the age that we monitor runaways down to 12 and under. This was a HUGE topic of conversation when we brought this up to the staff. The number of pre-teens running away is becoming an epidemic. There has to be a fixable solution to this problem. Surely teachers, other students, family members can SEE when something is so wrong that a pre-teen is ready to run away from a problem. Whether it be abuse, sex, or whatever, kids at that age are not mentally developed yet to make such a decision. It's a terrible thing to see and hear of this going on. One of our employees's daughter was 11 years old (the age of my daughter now), she was lured into running away to have sex with a 17 year old. A typical guy wanting sex isn't earthshattering, however, because of the parents no seeing or knowing the signs to watch out for, they lost their daughter. 6 years later, she came home with 4 kids and drugged up. Even worse, she don't even know who the *DADS* are. All this because of what?
Now 13+ years old, it's easier to understand and see it happen because of the mental make up of the child. They can and do have more freedoms to make up their mind on what they want to do. It too is sad that anyone has to run away from their problems or end their life. I guess it goes back to that old saying. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

Another picture of Kylie, this one was on the Sheriffs flyer.

I'm hoping that these "post suicide-note sightings" are legit. Honestly, I'm praying that she left the note as a diversion, so she could run away. Maybe she thought if people thought she was dead, they wouldn't look for her as a runaway.
On another note though, if she has run away, she hasn't accessed her MySpace page. Also, the quote is kind of scary. I hope "now im going to join him" is speaking of someone still living... Of course, I'm still hoping this is all part of some elaborate plot.
Also, BOTLOF, you're right about the younger runaways. And it's very scary.

From her Myspace a quote: Lyrics to a song. "When the children cry" by White Lion and remake by Mark 'Oh.
I would imagine given her preference for makeup and hair color that she would lean more towards the Mark 'Oh remake. Just my two cents though.
"Xxwhen the children cry letthem knowwe tryedxX"
Now I'm going to join him is not a part of the lyrics to that song.

The picture on the right on the Sheriff's poster certainly DOES look different! Hmm...she def does NOT look 12 yo in that photo. Wow it blew me away. It looks like she might have gotten into something between the time frame of the photo on the right and the one onf the left that precipitated this poor decision on her part.
Ok - on my soapbox for a second...and totally O/T
I think part of the problem these days is that 'children' are exposed to 'adult' situations and things a lot sooner than they were say 30 years ago. A lot of parents are trying to parent based on what they knew when they were growing up. The world is a whole different place now...kids are totally different and we have to parent them accordingly. (I'm a mother of three - 27, 22, and 17).
Innocence goes away a lot quicker for sure. All we can do as parents is educate and parent our kids and point them back in the right direction when they stumble off the 'path'. To do that though, we have to keep our eyes open to them experimenting with situations that can get them into big trouble and act fast. If your gut tells you something is up -- it most likely is.
I think part of the problem with out kids growing up so fast evolved from the restructuring of our school systems from Elementary until 6th grade, Junior High from 7th until 9th and then H.S. 9th - 12th. The maturity level of a 13-14 yo is much greater (believe it or not) than that of a 11-12 yo to be exposed to older middle school kids...and 14 is too young for a kid to be exposed to H.S. things. I might be off in that thinking, but that's when things started to change IMO. I wish they'd rethink it and put it back the way it was...but it's probably too late now.
I certainly pray for this family and hope that they find their daughter soon, so they can get her back on the right track. It's sad that she chose flight instead of fight.KC found her pot of gold in others pockets.

Article above dated 23 JAN 09
snippet from article:
“She’s been sighted all over the area,” said Bruce Larson, Ellis’s father. “A lot in Rainier.”
Larson believes his daughter may have a chemical imbalance and need psychiatric care.
I am encouraged that sightings have been reported. I hope they are correct and she is found soon.

Just saw this on our local newspaper on-line. I googled Kylie Ellis Websleuths thinking there may be a thread. Of course there was
Man Finds Girls Body In Debris From Yelm Canal
Could this be Kylie? I don't think after 6 months her body would be mistaken for a mannequin. But, if she has been roaming around as a runaway and this recently happened? I don't know.

Hi Tubbs. Yes, because I just saw this other article in our paper. I hate it when the news has conflicting reports. I hope some family gets some answers and soon.
