"After more than a week searching for her, Sherry Cook's family has begun to fear the worst, even as Jackson police use an automated telephone service to find the missing woman.
"At this point, I don't think we are looking for her alive," said Cook's sister Melissa Ray on Monday afternoon. "Sherry likes to walk, and no one has seen her walking around. She isn't answering her phone, either."Cook, 28, who has mental disabilities, was last seen about 9:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Jackson Transit Authority Downtown Transfer Station, at 431 E. Main St. Someone saw her leaving the bus stop with a man, Ray said.
Capt. Mike Holt said Monday that Jackson police decided to use A Child is Missing Inc. - an automated telephone system that calls homes and businesses in the area to solicit information - to help find Cook."

Someone saw her leaving with a man.. the family fears the worst:eek:

I hope that she is safe and is returned home soon.

Missing woman's body found in a field

Investigators with the Jackson Police Department have identified the body of a woman found as Sherry Cook, according to a press release from the police.

Cook's body was found in a field in the 1600 block of Dr. F. E. Wright Drive shortly before 9 a.m. today.

Officers were shown the body by an acquaintance of Cook who has confessed to killing her, the release said.

The suspect's name is being withheld pending formal charges.

Evidence at the scene indicates possible homicide and the investigation is ongoing, the release said.

That is so sad. I was really hoping they would find her alive and well.

Murder case sent to grand jury

Testimony: He cut her eyes out

A Jackson man charged with killing his girlfriend in January told police and a relative that he cut her eyes out, according to testimony given Thursday.

Jeremiah Woods, 21, is charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Sherry Cook, 28, of Jackson. Woods did not testify at Thursday's preliminary hearing in Jackson City Court. The judge ordered that Woods have a mental evaluation at Pathways. According to a letter to the court, Woods was found competent to stand trial.
Onitha Gunn, Woods' foster aunt, testified that Woods said he killed Cook because he was tired of her and that he cut out her eyes with a box cutter.
Photos presented in court Thursday show cuts also were made to other parts of Cook's face.
Gunn said that Lisa Williams, Woods' foster mother and Gunn's sister, had told Woods that Cook had been coming over to the house too often and that he needed to see less of Cook.
"I asked (Woods) if he was tired of (Cook), why didn't he leave her alone," Gunn said. "He said she would have kept coming back."
Gunn said she talked to Woods four or five times about Cook's disappearance before Woods confessed to her. When he did, Gunn said Woods told her the box cutter was with Cook's body.
Woods was not on any medication at the time of the killing and was going to Pathways, Gunn said. She said that he is mildly mentally retarded.
Jackson police Sgt. Al Colon testified that Woods told police what he did to Cook and showed them where Cook's body was.
Medical examiner Eric Echtenkamp was called to the field and said the probable cause of Cook's death was multiple lacerations to the throat.
Investigators also saw the specific injuries Woods had told them about, which included Cook's eyes being cut out.
Colon said no weapon was recovered from the scene. Woods did not indicate that anyone else was involved or present when Cook was killed, Colon said.
