John Sesnick is accused of pretending to be a hurricane Katrina victim and scamming the government out of thousands. But when police went to a St. Augustine Walmart parking lot they found Sesnick and a 12 year-old girl sleeping in a van. It was packed with 2 dogs, rotting food, soiled clothes, a urine filled potty training toilet and a book full of *advertiser censored*.

Investigators say Sesnick denied anyone else was in the car until they found the girl under a blanket. Her mouth was bleeding and her tongue was bruised. Sesnick claims the girl is his daughter. But according to investigators a birth certificate found in the car appeared to be altered.

Now Sesnick is being held on an outstanding warrant for allegedly making false claims to get FEMA relief in hurricane Katrina. The girl is in DCF custody.

Okay so who is the girl?

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -- The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office arrested a man on charges of federal mail fraud involving FEMA aid and theft of government property.
60-year-old John Sesnick was arrested in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart located on U.S. 1 early Tuesday morning.
According to Chuck Mulligan with the sheriff's office, a deputy spotted a suspicious van parked in the lot. After running the license plate, it was discovered that there was an open warrant for Sesnick.
While questioning him, deputies asked him if anyone else was with him. Sesnick told them no but when his van was searched, there was a 12-year-old girl inside.
She told deputies that Sesnick was her father. A birth certificate was found in the van but Mulligan says it appears to be altered to say that Sesnick is her dad.
The girl is now in the care of the Department of Children and Families.
Mulligan says it appears the man and the girl were living in the van, in bad conditions.
They told deputies that they were visiting relatives in Ponte Vedra but no one has been located.
The sheriff's office is trying to find the girl's mother. Neither the teen nor Sesnick knew exactly where she lives. The told investigators she possibly lives in Arizona.
Investigators found rotting food, bugs and urine inside the van. Authorities also confiscated a 35 mm camera, a roll of used film, three pieces of FEMA paperwork, tools, a TV, clothing, a potty training toilet, a book full of pornographic pictures, and two small dogs.

Reminds me of a Franklin Delano Floyd situation, gives me the chills. Here is his pic. BTW, this article says that he stated he had relatives in Jax area but they had not been able to find them. I did search myspace for that last name, there are only 3! And 2 of them are in Jacksonville, so there maybe something to that part of the story. He's still a sick , bloody mouth and bruised tongue????

I don't really want to know anymore details about the conditions this poor child has been living in. It is nauseating just reading the small bit in the article. :frown:

I wonder who she is and how long she has been with him? Hopefully the silver lining will be that a family will be reunited with their lost child.

I hope they lock this guy up in general pop. and let nature take it's course :furious:

The bloody mouth and bruised tongue jumped out at me. UGH!!! :furious: WTH is wrong with these people? I pray that this little girl is okay and that she can finally tell who she is. Perhaps she is one of our missing children.

Ponte Vedra is near St Aug but I wonder why he wasn't camped out in Ponte Vedra instead?

I'm so sorry for the little girl to have put through what she's been through and at the same time I am so happy that they've recovered her alive.

Praying that her family is found and she can recover from this.

In cases like this, I sometimes wish that LE could just shoot the ba$tards. :furious:

Unless he has had her for a long time, shouldn't she be able to tell them something to help them find out who she is? I pray that she has a loving family somewhere and she will be returned to them. I hope she is in counseling.

I think it's called stockhome syndrome. They are told they are somebody different and brian washed to believe. In a since they forget who they were before. Hopefully they can do a DNA quickly and find out who this child is. Poor thing is going to need extensive therapy.

Apparently all this guy did was commit fraud.

This was his daughter. The child was placed with relatives.

Sesnick would probably only do about a year for his crime.
