PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- Ten days since her daughter was last seen, Haleigh Cummings' mother said it feels like "her heart is being ripped out."
"I feel helpless, but I'm here and I'm not leaving until she's home," Sheffield said.

Earlier in the day, Cummings' girlfriend, Misty Croslin, was taken to the sheriff's office once again for more questioning. Detectives have remained tight-lipped about what was discussed with the 17-year-old.
"I hope she's telling the truth … because my kids they love her. I hope she wouldn’t do nothing to hurt them," Sheffield said.
She and Cummings were brought separately to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office Wednesday afternoon for interviews.

Investigators Question Relative of Misti Croslin in Tennessee

PUTNAM COUNTY, FL -- Following tips on a possible Haleigh sighting in Tennessee, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office has questions for someone who lives there. He is a relative of Misti Croslin, the girlfriend of Haleigh's father and the last known person who saw the child the night she disappeared.

Sheriff Jeff Hardy will not say how Misti Croslin and the person in Tennessee are related, or if that person is a sex offender.
"My feeling all along, Haleigh is not in this area. I've been adamant about it. I know she's out of state somewhere. Don't ask me how I know, it is right here in my gut," Haleigh's grandmother, Marie Griffis, told First Coast News reporter Lindy Thackston at a vigil Thursday night. The family has held the vigil every night since Haleigh disappeared.
"Everybody tells me, well a sexual offender done this. I just don't feel that. Whoever has her knows her, " Griffis said.

PUTNAM COUNTY, FL -- Sheriff Jeff Hardy announced the arrest Thursday of a sexual predator who lives in Haleigh Cummings' neighborhood. At this time they say they don't believe he is connected to the child's disappearance.
GPS shows Timothy Randolph Loucakis was either in his home or in his yard the night Haleigh disappeared. Deputies arrested him last night for violating his curfew and searched his house for a third time.

Possible Haleigh Sighting Led Investigators To Tennessee
Woman Says She Saw Girl Resembling Missing 5-Year-Old
POSTED: Friday, February 20, 2009
UPDATED: 7:24 am EST February 20, 2009

A woman reported to authorities on Sunday that she saw a girl resembling Haleigh Cummings, who has been missing for more than a week, at a Carrabba's restaurant in Knoxville, Tenn. The woman said a man was attempting to shield the girl's face and they drove off in a red Toyota Rav4 with Florida tags. A search of the area did not locate the vehicle, authorities said. Detectives said they have questioned a Tennessee relative of Misty Croslin -- Haleigh's father's girlfriend, who was the last person to see the 5-year-old.

Sex Predator Arrested
Meanwhile, a registered sexual predator who lives 1 mile from Haleigh's home was arrested Thursday, but Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy said there's no direct link to the girl's disappearance.
"We're questioning a lot of people," Hardy said. "We have polygraphs going on as we speak."
Croslin was taken to the sheriff's office for additional questioning on Thursday, but Hardy said her interview was routine.
On Wednesday, Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings and Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh's mother, were each brought to the sheriff's office for interviews.

WFTV Viewer Donates Camper To Haleigh's Father
Friday, February 20, 2009 – updated: 7:04 am EST February 20, 2009

<snipped>
PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- An Eyewitness News viewer decided to donate a camper to Haleigh's father, who is presently living in a tent, while investigators search for the little girl. The camper will be arriving Friday for Ronald Cummings to live in. Cummings moved into the tent when his home became a crime scene.
Eyewitness News spoke with Haleigh's family Thursday about how they are coping. They are living in a tent, about 15-by-15. Coolers are full of water and drinks and inside is where the family is living, because their mobile home down the street is still a crime scene.
New information was released Thursday about the pink shirt Haleigh was last reported wearing. Ronald Cummings' grandmother, Annette Sykes, told Eyewitness News earlier this week deputies allowed Misty Croslin back inside the mobile home where Haleigh was abducted.

Cops: Haleighs neighbor arrested for violating curfew

The terms of Loucakis' probation require him to remain inside his Camellia Drive home in rural Satsuma between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. It's a mile north of the mobile home Haleigh lived in. Haleigh was reported missing early Feb. 10. Within a couple of hours, deputies searched Loucakis' trailer, said Putnam sheriff's Lt. Johnny Greenwood. Later in the morning, a probation officer searched, too, he said.

Loucakis hasn't previously violated his curfew, Plessinger said. He was located a short distance from his home Wednesday night.

Loucakis was sentenced in 2001 to five years in prison for child abuse and promoting the sexual performance of a child in a movie, photograph or other visual presentation in Putnam County.

A news article from 2000 in the Florida Times-Union said Loucakis was accused of seeking sex with a 10-year-old girl and sent child *advertiser censored* to an FDLE agent posing as the girl's father in a computer chat room.

Loucakis also was charged with a lewd-and-lascivious offense in 1990 in Volusia County, Plessinger said. The outcome of that case was unavailable late Thursday.

Father begs to end gossip, renew focus on Haleigh
Overnight arrest of a nearby sexual predator not related to case
Story updated at 6:34 AM on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009

<snipped>
In Satsuma, the father of missing 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings pleaded for an end to scrutiny and gossip about his family and a renewed focus on finding his little girl.
In Palatka, the sheriff fought off questions about any link between a sexual predator arrested overnight for breaking curfew and Haleigh’s disappearance Feb. 10.

Thursday afternoon, Ronald Cummings, the missing girl’s father, held an impromptu news briefing and urged people and the media not make this ordeal about the family. It’s about finding his daughter, the 25-year-old said. He didn’t specify the Times-Union report that detailed the family’s background, including drug arrests and custody issues, and the interview with his girlfriend. Cummings also said he doesn’t have any enemies.
Standing with his mother, Cummings gave thanks to all that the community and law enforcement have done.

UPDATED: Grandma To Haleigh: 'We Will Find You'
Reward Upped To $20K
POSTED: 7:21 am EST February 20, 2009
UPDATED: 4:22 pm EST February 20, 2009

PALATKA, Fla. -- The paternal grandmother and aunt of missing Putnam County girl Haleigh Cummings held a news conference Friday afternoon.
The child's paternal grandmother, Teresa Neves, once again pleaded with whoever has her granddaughter to return her safely. "I feel like my grandbaby is alive. I pray that whoever has her that they are feeding her and taking care of her," Neves said.

WESH 2 News confirmed Thursday that Haleigh's father's girlfriend, Misty Croslin, had a cousin, Joe, visiting from Tennessee the day Haleigh disappeared. Neves said during Friday's news conference that she has never met the cousin, but she has heard nothing good about him and does not trust him. Croslin appeared on the 'Today' show Friday, and did not speak highly of her cousin either. "He's a criminal, pretty much. He's been in trouble his whole life," she said. "I don't trust him. No, I don't."

Also, during another round of questioning of Misty Croslin, who is Haleigh's father's girlfriend, the teenager said she was home when the girl disappeared. Detectives wouldn't say much about a car they processed or what prompted a second round of questioning of Croslin.

During a news conference held Friday afternoon by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, officials said another $4,000 has been added to the reward for Haleigh's safe return, bringing the total to $20,000.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement special agent Dominick Pape said all relatives have been interviewed in the case, and Joe is a relative. He said it wasn't fair to go into further detail.

UPDATED: Girlfriend's Cousin Under Investigation In Haleigh Case
Friday, February 20, 2009 – updated: 11:12 am EST February 20, 2009

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- The Putnam County Sherriff's Office says that the FBI is investigating Misty Croslin's cousin. Eyewitness News learned Thursday that Misty Croslin's cousin, known as "Joe" was in town the night Haleigh disappeared.
There are now questions about what role Joe may have played in the disappearance. After the little girl vanished, he took off to Tennessee

WFTV reporter Mark Boyle briefly spoke with Misty Croslin about her cousin.
"You said you don't trust him, why?" asked Boyle.
"I just don't trust him," she said. "He's gotten into a lot of trouble."

Eyewitness News has confirmed that a woman called 911 in Knoxville, Tennessee a few days ago to report a possible Haliegh sighting. The woman told police she saw a man shielding a little girl's face who looked like Haleigh while getting into an SUV.
There were also reports that Croslin's cousin and Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, got into some type of argument hours before the 5-year-old disappeared. Eyewitness News asked Cummings about the reported argument.
"There was no fight with a cousin over a gun. I don't know where people are getting their information from, but people say a lot of things and they don't always know what they are talking about," he said.

2:36 The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is releasing little information about "Joe," Misty Croslin's relative who she and Haleigh Cummings' family members said was in Satsuma around the time Haleigh vanished. But it is disputing rumors that he is a pedophile. "As far as we know, he is not a sex offender," said Lt. Johnny Greenwood of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. Greenwood also confirmed that investigators spoke to Joe at his home in Tennessee but would not release other details, including his last name, where he lives in Tennessee and whether he was in Satsuma recently.
1:26 Haleigh's grandmother and aunt said they have heard reports that a cousin of Misty Croslin's might be a pedophile, but they haven't received any definitive information to that effect. At a televised news conference, Teresa Neves, Haleigh's paternal grandmother, said she never met the cousin, who she thinks is named Joe and lives in Tennessee.
In recent days, rumors have circulated about a relative of Croslin's who was in Satsuma at the time of Haleigh's disappearance, but has since return to Tennessee, and officials with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office have confirmed that they have spoken with the man. Today Show host Matt Lauer asked Croslin, 17, if she thought the relative had anything to do with Haleigh's disappearance.
"I really don't know, I don't know if he did or not," Croslin said. "That's an interesting way to answer the question," Lauer responded. "I think that a lot of people might say that, 'No I'm positive that person had nothing to do with Haleigh.'" "I'm not quite sure at all. No . . . He's a criminal pretty much, he's been in trouble his whole life. I don't trust him," Croslin replied, adding that she hasn't spoken to the relative since he left Satsuma.

Girlfriend of Haleigh’s dad asserts: ‘I was home’
But Misty Croslin won’t rule out unidentified relative in girl’s disappearance

Among the 1,300 tips collected by investigators was one possible sighting of Haleigh in a car with an adult male and female in Knoxville, Tenn. Police in Knoxville have interviewed the relative Croslin spoke of, but on Friday she told TODAY’s Matt Lauer that she was not convinced the man was not involved in Haleigh’s disappearance.
Croslin did not identify the man, nor did she say what her relationship to him is. She is the last person to have seen Haleigh, and she is the person who reported her missing. Inconsistencies have been pointed out in the story she has told investigators, although Croslin has reportedly passed a polygraph test.

Croslin was joined by Haleigh’s paternal grandmother, Teresa Neves. Both stood in front of a large tent in which the family is living because Cummings’ house has been sealed off as a crime scene. Croslin had pictures of Haleigh attached to her jacket, while Neves held a large photo of the girl, showing her blond curls and a distinctive smudgelike birthmark on her left cheek near her ear.
Neves has been supportive of Croslin, but Neves told Lauer she does not object to police questioning the young woman again. “I want the detectives to find my granddaughter. I do not care who they question. We are all available for questioning. All we want is for Haleigh to come home.”

Tip leads to new ground search for Haleigh

http://www.wftv.com/news/18759621/detail.html

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- A new tip led to a new ground search for missing 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings Friday and an army of deputies searched a wooded area just a few hundred yards from her home.

Putnam County sheriff's deputies stopped all physical ground searches for Haleigh Cummings last Monday, but Friday morning Eyewitness News found a search team in Satsuma in a parking lot and followed behind them.
The tip that led law enforcement to the wooded area came in overnight. Officers from all over, including Flagler County Fire Rescue, showed up early Friday morning to begin the search

SATSUMA, Fla. -- Neither that search, a result of a lead, nor a search conducted of the area where a sex offender visited after his curfew turned up anything useful, Putnam County Sheriff's Office Capt. Dick Schauland said Friday afternoon. Investigators would not provide any specifics about either a possible sighting of Haleigh outside a Tennessee restaurant or interviews with a cousin of Misty Croslin -- the 17-year-old girlfriend of Haleigh's father and the last person to see the 5-year-old. Family members told Channel 4 that a relative named Joe visited the Cummings' home and left hours before Haleigh disappeared.

The only major announcement at Friday's news briefing was that the reward was increased by $4,000. "That brings the reward to $20,000 for any information regarding Haleigh's whereabouts and/or the conviction of the perpetrator of any crimes involving her," Schauland said.

Mother Pleads For 5-Year-Old's Return
With 11 days passing and no work on Haleigh, her mother said it feels like "her heart is being ripped out."
Thursday evening, both of the missing child's parents, Ronald Cummings and Crystal Sheffield, spoke out and asked for their little girl's safe return.
Haleigh's parents stood close to each other at the evening's candlelight vigil, praying for their missing daughter. They said they are not giving up on Haleigh.

SATSUMA -- Haleigh's grandmother said she has a gut feeling her grandadaughter is alive. At a 1 p.m. press conference, Teresa Neves pleaded for the missing 5-year-old's safe return.
Knoxville, Tenn.'s WVLT reported Putnam County Sheriff's investigators said they questioned a Tennessee man about Haleigh's disappearance. The unnamed man is Misty Croslin's cousin, who family members said was in Putnam County visiting Croslin days before Haleigh disappeared.
Meanwhile, at a 3 p.m. press conference, deputies announced the reward has increased to $20,000.

Flagler County Joins Search
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has joined in the search for Haleigh.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported Flagler officials said search efforts may have resumed because new information may have surfaced in the case.

"The young woman who was caring for a missing 5-year-old Florida girl continued to maintain she was home all night when Haleigh Cummings vanished, but said she could not rule out the possibility that a male relative from Tennessee was involved in the disappearance.

Misty Croslin, the 17-year-old live-in girlfriend of Haleigh’s father, Ronald Cummings, reported that Haleigh was missing from Cummings’ double-wide home around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10. The previous day, an unidentified male relative from Tennessee had left after a visit of an unspecified length. Cummings has denied published reports that he argued with the man about a gun."

SATSUMA, FL -- Speaking to the media on behalf of her son Ronald Cummings, Teresa Neves reiterated the main concern of all of Haleigh Cummings' family: "We want our Haleigh home safe."
Neves said in an afternoon news conference how much she appreciates "everything everybody's doing for us."

Asked about the reports coming from Tennessee that authorities are questioning a relative of Ronald Cummings' girlfriend, Misty Croslin, Cummings' sister echoed something Misty had said earlier: "We don't (trust him) either."
Authorities are still working that angle.

PALATKA, FL -- As the search for Haleigh Cummings continues with little new information coming in, the reward for finding the missing 5-year-old has increased.
Capt. Dick Schauland with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office didn't say who provided the new money, but the total reward now stands at $20,000. The biggest news from the search is that two crews have spent the day following up on recent leads.
One is south of Satsuma, and Schauland indicated that search was not turning up anything.

The other is related to yesterday's arrest of sexual predator Timothy Loucakis. Schauland said investigators are "thoroughly convinced that he was not involved in this," but that they would be remiss if they didn't follow up completely.

Misty Croslin, the girlfriend of Haleigh's father Ronald Cummings, earlier said a relative of hers in Tennessee who is being questioned has a criminal record and she doesn't trust him. Ronald's sister echoed that sentiment Friday morning, but Florida Department of Law Enforcement Special Agent Dominick Pape wouldn't go that far.
He said investigators had spoken to "Joe" in Tennessee, but added that they are not trying to embarrass any family members and wouldn't say whether or not "Joe" was a person of interest.

As for the new details, family members said Haleigh has two brown birth marks: the larger one is on her left cheek bone and a smaller on is on the right side of her face, just above the jaw. Also, she has strawberry blond hair with hints of red in it, not just blond hair. Family members said her fingers and toes are chubbier than those of other children her size and age, and her left eye is a "lazy eye."

"Law enforcement does not want to embarrass any relatives in this investigation," Pape said. "The real story is the rescovery of Haleigh."

Law enforcement officers, including nine deputies and two K-9 units from Marion County, searched two areas on Friday, following up on leads.

The family of a little Florida girl who apparently vanished while she was sleeping is afraid she was taken by a pedophile cousin.

"What we've been told is that he's a sexual pedophile," said Haleigh's mother Crystal Sheffield. The child's grandmother Teresa Neves said Croslin described him as a "jerk" and she was worried.

She (Misty*) has also reportedly told different stories to police and the media about the timing of her discovery that Haleigh was gone and where she and the child were the night the little girl disappeared.

*Misty's name added by me for clarification purposes.
