Broken door alarms are blamed in part for the disappearance Sept. 3 of Mouy Tang, a 46-year-old woman and resident of Unique Living in Lawndale for more than three years.

However, the chain of responsibility reaches much farther than that, say attorneys for the still-missing woman's family who are looking toward supervising agencies and individuals in state government for accountability.

Tang, schizophrenic, an insulin-dependent diabetic and with other health issues, apparently walked out of the home early that day and might have been spotted near Burns High School but has not been seen since.

It's been a year since a Cleveland County woman disappeared from an assisted living facility , and now new search efforts are underway to solve the case. Investigators say 49-year-old Muoy Tang walked away from the Unique Living Facility in Cleveland County last September.

Her family tells NewsChannel36, she suffers from schizophrenia and diabetes.

Another search is scheduled Thursday in Cleveland County for a mentally ill woman who went missing one year ago.

Mouy Tang, 46, disappeared from the Unique Living adult care facility in Shelby on Sept. 3, 2008. She is a diagnosed schizophrenic and also an insulin-dependent diabetic.

Tang’s family was in Raleigh in March, where a state review panel recommended upholding $50,000 worth of fines against Unique Living, Inc., which was shut down last October.

A report found workers did not do an adequate job supervising patients, while proper alarms were not installed on some exit doors.

The report also said Unique Living failed to do background checks on some staff members.

Hope and tears certainly cross state lines -- like the tiny feet of Cambodian refugees crossed country lines three decades ago through the Killing Fields to find freedom.
Some of those feet from a Cambodian family named Tang ended up in Rock Hill and York County, living among us, going to school with us, dreaming of a better life among us -- hoping that new neighbors would look out for them. Now is one of those times we all need to be that nosy neighbor.
Back on Sept. 3, 46-year-old Mouy Tang was last seen in Cleveland County, N.C., just northwest of York County. Tang, with diabetes and cognitive impairment, was a longtime resident at an assisted care facility near Lawndale north of Shelby, N.C., but was off-site when last seen around 7:35 a.m. near Burns High School in Cleveland County, said Sgt. Family of missing woman seeking damages in court

The family of a missing Cleveland County woman wants at least $750,000 in compensatory damages.

A judge hearing the case Monday said the family is entitled to pain and suffering as well, but that judge did not rule or award dollar amounts.

Mouy Tang was never found. Given her diabetes problem, her doctor says Tang would have gone into diabetic shock within hours since she did not have her medication. The family attorney thinks Tang may have walked into the woods and died.

More than 2 years after disappearance, family of Unique Living resident seeks damages in court

Inside courtroom four, all parties were accounted for Monday. Almost.

There was Neal Rodgers, the Charlotte attorney seeking damages in the 2008 disappearance of a woman suffering from mental illness.

There was Tong Tang, the brother from Hendersonville that still doesn’t know the whereabouts of his sister, despite his family organizing more than 20 searches.

Two rabbit hunters stumbled across human remains off of East Stagecoach Trail on Feb. 17. On Monday, the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Charlotte identified the remains as Mouy Tang, who disappeared in September 2008.
