SC - Clartha Epps McLeod, 74, Olanta, 30 Jan 2009 - Alzheimer's
3 Feb 09
Authorities in Florence, Clarendon and Sumter counties are seeking help in locating a 74-year-old woman who wandered away from her home in Olanta on Friday night.
Claretha McLeod, who suffers from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, was last seen around 10:30 p.m. Friday in New Zion after hitchhiking from her home to Shiloh in Sumter County and then to northern Clarendon County, Sheriff Randy Garrett Jr. with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Department said. She was last seen wearing a bright red coat and beige pants, weighs 130 pounds and is 5 feet 6 inches tall.
“We know that at about 10:30 Friday night, she was picked up alongside the road in New Zion,” Garrett said. “We had three bloodhounds that picked up her scent and tracked her to the intersection of Old Manning Road and William McFadden Road, but the scent went cold. That tells us that someone else picked her up.”

A prayer and candlelight vigil took place Thursday night at a Lynchburg church for 74-year-old Clare[e]tha Epps McLeod.
On January 30th, someone dropped her off at a church in Clarendon County, and she hasn't been seen since.
Thursday night, her family, friends and law enforcement officials prayed that she will be found safe and alive.
"I'm hoping that it will shed some light as to where she is and maybe bring some information so that the police can check on it," said Icy Bell Lowery, Clartha's niece.
If you've seen her, you're asked to call police in Florence, Sumter or Clarendon Counties.
Investigators in those areas are working together to find her.

Claretha Epps McLeod found: Skeletal remains found in June matched to woman missing since 2009
http://manninglive.com/2014/12/22/cl...ng-since-2009/The family of Claretha Epps McLeod has wondered where she went for nearly six years. The Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office provided a grisly answer Monday, confirming that skeletal remains found of Tearcoat Road in June matched DNA provided by McLeod’s children.
“Along with other additional evidence, we are able to give a 100 percent positive identification as Ms. Claretha,” said Maj. Kipp Coker.Clarendon County Deputy Coroner Charles Jackson was present for Monday’s announcement. He said no cause of death has been ascertained yet, but Coker said deputies consider the investigation closed. He said they do not have reason to believe McLeod’s death was the result of homicide.
He said ultimately that McLeod was found about 25 miles from her home.
RIP Ms. Clartha

R.I.P. Clartha McLeodNo temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. - 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
