I thought I'd get to this before Cass.

"One owner was in the cabin when "he heard a noise, goes out to check and finds the hand on the rear deck of the boat," said Nassau Detective Sgt. John Azzata. "At this point, we don't have a clue where it came from. It's a mystery."

There was an update in New York post or times...I heard they may have been considering it to be a bear claw. There's no verification on this, just an article.
Actually a skinned bear looks a lot like a man.
