Not sounding good. This pretty young girl went for a jog and was last seen yesterday afternoon. An amber alert was issued, but has since been cancelled. A body was found near where the girl went jogging.

Oh my, this story is breaking rather quickly. Police believe it is her body, and have taken a man nearby into custody. Looking for a link...

CINCINNATI -- Police are interviewing a person of interest in connection with the Amber Alert search for 13-year-old Esme Kenney.

Police found a body early Sunday, although they have not confirmed its identity.

Winton Hills police said they located a body at about 3 a.m., but they are not releasing much information.

The girl was last seen at about 3:45 p.m. Saturday jogging along Winton Ridge Lane.

how could anyone hurt this sweet innocent girl? I am so sick of the monsters in our midst!! Prayers to her family and friends.
 
Esme Kenney left her house on Winton Ridge Lane around 3 p.m. Saturday, telling her family she would be home soon, said Lt. Mark Briede of the Cincinnati police.

Esme usually jogged around the reservoir, and when she didn’t come home, her family contacted police.

Police used search dogs and a helicopter Saturday night, combing the wooded area off Winton Road near Oakfield.

During the search, they found someone in the woods, and after questioning him, issued an Amber Alert, suspecting foul play in Esme’s disappearance. No charges have been filed, police said.

Police found the girl’s body around 3:30 a.m. in a wooded area not far from the reservoir, Briede said.

Briede would not give details about how the girl may have died.

Bolding is my own. So this creep was hiding out in the woods waiting for her body to be found or what??? Creepy. And beyond sick. Prayers for this girl's family and friends.
 
This one sickens me. They let him out of jail in less than a year after soliciting sex from another 13 year old. Good god.

Police arrested 40-year-old Anthony Kirkland of Cincinnati on Sunday after finding him in nearby woods. He is in the Hamilton County jail pending a court appearance.

Police have not released details of Kenney's death. Court records show Kirkland was convicted in March 2008 of soliciting sex from a 13-year-old girl and was jailed until Oct. 20, 2008. He was convicted of two counts of unlawful restraint in 2007.

maybe they actually caught him as he was leaving after dumping her body? man, she was gone before i even heard about this one. poor baby....this makes me so mad!
 
Apparently the same guy that was hiding out in the woods....he's a creepy fellow.

Sunday, the family of Esme Kenney confirmed that police had found her body after a search that ran into the early morning.

I can't believe this story hasn't received more attention! It is every parents WORST nightmare! God bless Esme, and I pray that angels were there to hold her close in her last moments of terror. This is so horrible, I am almost at a loss for words. There is one thing that stuck out to me, however. The creep that has apparently murdered her was "living in the woods"???? Where was he on Feb 2, 09 when Haleigh Cummings went missing. Any ties to Florida that anyone has found? When did he get paroled? I see that he was....but when??? He has been on a blue streak of insanity for the last part of February, and the beginning of March up until this tragedy. What set him off? He should have never been out of prison - EVER!!!! I bolded the "living in the woods" statement because someone appeared to have been living in the woods right before Haleigh went missing in Florida, and her brother claims that a "black man dressed in all black" came in a took Haleigh. I know it is a VERY long shot, and probably ridiculous, but I just want to know where he was on February 2, 2009.
 
It appears that he had been living at the halfway house from 2007 until Feb 27.

Thanks Idaho! Doesn't sound like this could have been in Florida when little Haleigh Cummings went missing. I have been at work, and then here with a slow computer trying to discuss the Haleigh case, so not a lot of time for sleuthing. That is what makes WS's a magical place, however..... one person has a question, and a gazillion WONDERFUL brilliant people dig up the answers! My heart is breaking for Esme and her family... I just wish I could have been there and protected her. God rest her soul, and God da** his!!!
 
I haven't logged in in over a year, but was very moved by this story for many reasons. I live about 15 mins. from where this crime happened, and unfortunately this :furious: is a distant cousin of mine. The authorities here believe he may also be responsibe for the deaths of Mary Jo Newton (45y.o. wf) and Casonya Crawford (14y.o. bf) who were found burned beyond recognition in 2006. I at that time lived about 5 mins from those crime scenes and have a daughter who was the same age as Casonya at the time. Also, if he had served the full 25 years for killing Leola Hughes in 1987, he would STILL BE IN JAIL!:furious: All of these children/women were set on fire, and he should be too:furious:

Oh, Mina! I am so sorry that you and your family have to be mixed up in this tragedy! Poor little Esme!! You don't even need to read any words to see what a shining example she was of all that is good in humanity - you only need to look at her pictures! Truly a good vs. evil story in this one. Mina, please know that you are welcome here, and there are MANY here that can understand what you are facing. Do you know anything about the childhood of Kirkland that would help to explain why he did this???

Convicted Sex Offender Accused Of Strangling Teen

City officials demanded the closure of a halfway house Tuesday after a former inmate was accused in the strangulation death of 13-year-old Esme Kenney.

Anthony Kirkland remains held on $5 million bond on murder and seven other charges in connection with the Winton Wood teen's death and three other crimes over a 10-day period.

The convicted killer and sex offender was evicted Feb. 27 from Pogue Rehabilitation Center after he fought with another inmate there, and city officials said his parole officer was not notified until three days afterward.

City Council members asked the state to shut down the Over-The-Rhine halfway house, which is operated by Volunteers of America, and launch an investigation into its operations, policies and procedures.
