The 17-year-old boy who had been reported missing in the water near Davenport Beach early his week has been identified as Dennis Cyncor-McMillan of Los Gatos.
A Los Gatos High School senior is missing and presumed dead after he went swimming in the chilly waters south of Davenport early Monday and could not make it back to the beach.
He "scored in the 99 percentile" on a Marine Corps aptitude test, his father Mark McMillan said. He also did well on the SATs and was waiting on acceptance letters from several colleges.
"He was funny and smart and well-liked," his mother said. "He was a kid who enjoyed life."
Cyncor-McMillan was also a wide receiver on the Los Gatos High football team.
The 2008-09 school year was a bittersweet one for the students at Los Gatos High School.
There were the usual events and accomplishments--the prom and homecoming, achievements in academics and athletics, successes in the drama and music departments.
But, sadly, the students were also subjected to the reality of life and death. Almost unbelievably, Los Gatos High School lost three students in three separate incidents in that single school year.
