It is stories like this that totally tick me off: Saudi religious police arrested a 75 yr old lady because they found 2 unrelated young men in her house... one knew her personally and the other young man was along as an escort... they were delivering her some bread. Her punishment: a public lashing of 40 hits, 4 months in prison, and deportation.

And VERY thankful I live in Australia and was not born to a country that has this sort of law

You do know the local Australian Muslims are working to introduce Sharia Law and have already made progress in England, don't you? Also in Canada.

Its never going to happen here

This is from 2006 but our Kevin Rudd would feel the same way on this issue..

But he only has a year and half left of his term and given how he just took all the surplus and Put us in a deficit yet AGAIN (way to go YET AGAIN Labor) I would say the next election will see Libs back in and I forsee Peter Costello leading the helm ;) :p

(remember you heard it here first ;) :p)

But just so you know ...http://www.thewest.com.au/aapstory.aspx?StoryName=457907

it has been ruled out here in Australia

Govt rules out Sharia law for Australia
8th February 2008, 12:54 WST

Federal Attorney-General Robert McClelland has ruled out the introduction of Sharia law in Australia.

"The Rudd government is not considering and will not consider the introduction of any part of Sharia law into the Australian legal system," Mr McClelland said.

This women will not survive after 40 lashes. She will die in prison from iinfection. This is one of the sickest things I have ever heard. Not surprising though.

You know the saying of....how a society treats its most vulnerable citizens is a great indicator of the quality of that society? I'd like to FLOG whoever agrees with this (after dipping it in saltwater, first, of course)...but then again, I'd like to flog a great number of people in this world....=p

There's a special place in Hell reserved for these fanatic extremists. They're probably perverts and womanizers in secret but persecuting and torturing their female citizens.

I think you're probably right. We need to remember that it is for political reasons that these practices are allowed to continue. It is disguised as religion but actually has very little to do with it. I don't want to offend anyone, but the Saudi government in power since the early 1900's is not exactly popular with the historical Arabian people. It has only been known as Saudi Arabia for about 90-100 years. According to things I've read, many citizens do not use the word Saudi when referring to their own country.

Abusers will hide behind many things in order to keep perpetrating. Religion is only one such reason.

In the article I believe it said both the young men were also flogged and put in prison. Apparently this ruckus all stems from one of the young men's father who, for whatever reason, thought his son should not deliver bread to an old widowed women. The young man was the woman's nephew by marriage.

It is very disturbing that this country punishes its citizens when they try to help each other.
