One Year Later, Teeth Found On Golf Course Corpse Still Unidentified

WAUKEGAN--If you knew someone with gold lettering on their front teeth whom you haven't seen for a year or more, the Lake County Coroner's office wants to hear from you.
The coroner’s office is again asking for the public's help in identifying human remains found at Countryside Golf Club in Mundelein in March 2007.

The remains, believed to be those of an older male, were found March 19, 2007, when golf course workers were preparing the course for its spring opening, according to a release from the coroner's office.

Also found at the scene was an upper denture with distinct characteristics. The denture contains two gold teeth, one on each side. Additionally, one tooth near the front has a gold “R” and another front tooth is marked with a gold star.

Anyone who might recognize the teeth is asked to call the coroner’s office at (847) 377-2200.

I havent been able to find any more information about it.

Skull found at Mundelein-area golf course

Investigators are searching Countryside Golf Course for clues after a human skull was discovered near the 14th tee.

A large bone that could be part of a leg or arm also was discovered.

The bones likely belonged to an adult, but the sex of the remains was not immediately known, Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said.

An employee found the bones about 1 p.m. today at the Mundelein-area course, which is owned and operated by the Lake County Forest Preserve District, officials said.

The bones appeared to have been chewed upon, perhaps by animals that discovered them elsewhere and dragged them to the site, officials said.

The bones still had some tissue but for the most part were clean, Keller said. Even so, they looked to be recent, he said.

The coroner’s office will examine the bones for distinguishing marks or other evidence that can be used to identify the remains, Keller said.

DNA testing is possible, he said.

The forest district police force is investigating. Rangers will look into whether the bones could be connected to the death of a man found inside a burned pickup truck on an access road near the course on Feb. 19.

That man was identified as Edward J. Fuller, 65, of Alsip.

More human bones found at golf course

March 29, 2007
By Nicholas P. Alajakis nalajakis@scn1.com
Authorities found more human bones on a rural Mundelein golf course, bringing the total to three batches in 10 days.

Lake County Deputy Coroner Steve Newton said two fragmented bones were found Wednesday at the Countryside Golf Course, near the same area where a skull was found on March 19. A third bone was discovered about 100 yards away.

Wednesday's discovery brings the bone total up to more than a dozen since last week. Newton said it is believed that all the bones belong to the same person.

Last week the Lake County Forest Preserve Police and Lake County Coroner's Office determined that the bones belonged to a male over the age of 45.

The man's bones were found near the 14th green by Countryside employees, who were preparing the course for the golfing season. A day later police found additional bones on the course. Wednesday's discovery was the third in 10 days.

The bones were all likely dragged to the course by coyotes, though a discovery of a coyote den in the area did not yield any additional bones, Newton said.

A skull found last week has been the biggest piece of evidence so far. The skull was found along with an upper denture, which included two gold teeth, and two other teeth marked with a gold star and the letter "R."

Authorities are hoping the denture's odd characteristics will help them identify the skull.

Since photos of the denture were released to the public, Newton said they have had little luck, with the only tips coming in from people who think they saw similar dentures more than 20 years ago.

Weathering of the bone indicate that victim had only been dead for a few months. Police have said they are not yet treating as case as a homicide.

Newton said forensic dentists are expected today to enter the dental records taken skull into the National Crime Information Center.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the lake County Coroner's office at (847)377-2200 of the Forest Preserve Police at (847) 968-3411.
