AL - Thomas Willis Lindley Jr., 34, Walker County, 13 March 2009
13 March 09
Marine police spent the morning scouring 11 miles of the Black Warrior River in Walker County, near the Gorgas Electric Plant. They were looking for 34-year old Thomas Willis Lindley Jr. who is believed fell over board between midnight and 2 am Friday.
Lindley was a deck hand on a Parker Towing boat. It was his job to maintain the vessel, and to connect the tow boat to the loads they were hauling.
Marine police believe the wet weather caused Lindley to slip and fall into the water, possibly being sucked beneath the boat.
Marine police hold out very little hope Lindley is alive, but Parker Towing president Charles Haun is a bit more optimistic, because Lindley was a strong swimmer.
