Undersea volcano in Tonga erupts

I read the article but still didn't quite understand what neighboring islands would be affected. Would the warning include the islands of Hawaii?

Yes, i think they are speaking of the ongoing, undersea, volcanic eruption. there may be enough force, at any given time, to generate a tsunami.

My mistake:

A strong 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck Friday near Tonga, generating a tsunami with the potential of striking coastlines in the South Pacific, officials said. There were no immediate reports of damage.

The quake struck about 130 miles south-southeast of the Tongan capital of Nuku'Alofa at a depth of 6.2 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
