CA - Young women missing in California in the 80's

    Ramona Lisa Beal
    Susan Robin Bender
    Theresa Ann Bier
    Michelle Duncan
    Ruth Ann Leamon
    Ilene Beth Misheloff
    Pamela Ann Pedro
    Shaliegh Sharrie Phillips
    Alma Violet Root
    Julie Renae Terry
    Nikki Ann Trollinger
    Joyce Irene Walcott
    Chevelle Yvonne Wheeler

Is it just me or were quite a few teenaged girls going missing in Cali in the 80s, with foul play suspected? I wonder if some of these cases are connected, but I don't know much about any of them, except Ilene's.

I wish more info was able about their cases...sigh. These girls deserve to be remembered and they deserve to have someone looking for them no matter how long it's been.

Was Chevelle Wheeler not presumed murdered by Wesley Shermantine? I wonder if he had anything to do with all these other missing girls?

There was a show on about Wesley Shermantine on Aand E Saturday (American Justice) and he is suspected of her murder. i didn't watch it all the way through so Im not sure if he was tried for it or not. I think he was. There are a few girls other girls missing from that same area too so it makes me wonder.

    Read Stalemate

About the possible connection of Timothy Bindner and some south Cali cases- 80's through 90's.

I would bet, if you did a query on every state- you would get similar results. I know Texas is pretty bad as well...

I saw that episode too, that's what brought it to mind. Bill Curtis said something at the end about how many more people Shermantime and Herzog could have killed.
As for all of them being connected, I'm sure that's not the case. Some of them have to be random. But I bet that Shermantine and Binder are behind some too.

    California missing/unknowns

California definitely leads the nation in missing persons and in unknown bodies. Just look at either the DoeNetwork or the NCMEC websites and do a geographic check to see a long list. Some of the cases might indeed be linked, but you have to consider the known clues and facts in each case before linking them to one perpetrator.

There are certainly more California cases online than other states. On my website about 1/4 of the cases are from California, although I cover all 50 states plus Washington DC plus a smattering of international cases. I'm not sure if California actually has more missing/unidentified people than other states though. I think it's more likely that the extensive online database makes it appear that Cali has more missing people, proportionate to its population. I only wish other states would adopt such a database.

The parents of Ilene Misheloff will mark the 17th year in the enduring search for their missing daughter with a candlelight vigil and walk tonight in Dublin.

Ilene's parents, Mike and Maddi Misheloff, have held the candlelight vigil every year since their daughter went missing Jan. 30 1989.

A $95,000 reward stands for information leading to her recovery. Police have released a photo of what Ilene, 30, would look like now.

"The Dublin police have been wonderful in keeping Ilene's case open," said Maddi Misheloff. "They still get four or five calls a year."

Community members, family, friends and strangers from around the country attend the walk, which ends with a prayer service catering to all faiths.

Dublin police ask anyone with information to call (925) 833-6670.

The 7 p.m. walk will start at Well's Middle School at 6800 Penn Drive and will proceed to Saint Raymond's Church at 11555 Shannon Ave.

This guy is sick, sick, sick. Why he isn't being pressed harder about these missing girls I will never know. And him saying that everyone has to block impulses to molest children is a bizzare comment that only a molester would make. I certanly don't have to try really hard to repress those urges b/c it is sick and wrong to molest children. Period. Any normal person would agree.

Psychologist's book revives suspicions about Oakland man

Bindner, a former cemetery worker, offered to Philpin during 200 hours of interviews the unusual theory that the killer or killers may have secretly buried the bodies of missing children in open graves the night before funerals. The next day, the evidence would be conveniently concealed by the casket meant for that grave.

``By two o'clock the next afternoon, people are going to be praying over that little baby, and there's going to be a casket and a vault on top of it,'' Bindner explained. ``The person who did that might even come to the damn funeral the next day. The person that's being buried has absolutely no relationship to the person that has been prematurely interred. ``So they can come, and say they were an acquaintance of the deceased, and attend the funeral, and just enjoy the whole spectacle. . . . You're protected. You're not only protected, you can sit there and laugh while people are praying.''

I have been closely following the Ilene Misheloff case. They believe there may be a link to convicted murderer James Daveggio and his girlfriend Michelle Michaud, but a link has never been proven. He trolled for his last victim in a van parked outside of Foothill High School in Pleasanton, the next town over. I think they need to grill him about Ilene!

I'm surprised they cannot find out what graves were dug while Bidner had access and dig them up just to see. I know it would be hard on the relatives of the buried person, but if it was me I would want justice for those families.

Wonder if there's some sort of xray they can do that could show a body under a casket?

    Scary stuff

There is probably no record of what he dug at the cemetary you would pretty much have to look in every grave from that time frame. Another thing to look at would be time cards and see if his work days coincided with disappearances. I personally don't think he had anything to do with Ilene's case but the little girls like Amanda Campbell for example I think he did.
His burial comments just sends up a million red flags for me.

Thank you meggilyweggily for the links to the Charley project. I just learned new details about Ilene's case that have me shook up! This case hits extremely close to home for me.

I've read that book, and I wrote about it on my recommended books page: http://www.charleyproject.org/books.html I honestly don't know what to think about Tim Bindner. Either he did it or he has really, really bad luck. Because there's all this innuendo, his behavior is so strange, and he strikes me as the KIND of person who would do it, but you'd think that if he had, there would be at least one solitary shred of actual evidence to implicate him.
