A bank robber in New Jersey asked a cashier if he would give him a lift to his getaway car.

Instead, Ernest Di Falco, 53, had a taxi ordered for him by staff at the Bank of New York branch in Rutherford.

When it arrived they were able to take the number and give it to police.

Di Falco had also failed to fool staff at the bank with his disguise. One cashier recognised him as a former employee of a nearby pizza shop.

Di Falco was arrested a short time later after police called the taxi firm, who then ordered the driver to pull over - in Polish.

Di Falco tried to escape on foot but was arrested and officers found money, a fake gun and an old revolver with seven bullets.
