Authorities on Thursday were trying to identify a body buried in a back yard of a home where a missing girl once lived, a police spokesman said.
Ceres police Sgt. Jose Berber confirmed the single-story house in the 3500 block of Alexis Court in Ceres was the home of Alycia Mesiti when she disappeared in August 2006 at the age of 14.
"(The human remains) may be connected to the missing girl," Berber said. "We're working on that as we speak."...
In the article above, it states that she was reported to have left home with a bag of clothes and her pet Chihuahua. It was also reported that she, left to go visit friends in the town that the family had lived in prior to Ceres, on August 11, 2006. She then contacted her parents on August 13, 2006 to say she was going camping and they never heard from her again."Three things in human life are important: The first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind." ~ Henry James

Story of missing girl beginning to emerge
...The home's owners said the family moved there without the girl's mother, and school officials confirmed that the girl was attending high school in Santa Cruz while her father and brother lived in Ceres. It was unclear where she was living at the time.
Police said Thursday that the body may be connected to the missing girl, but authorities could not confirm that Friday. Police would not say Friday whether the body had been identified...
...In December 2005, Alycia, her father and her brother moved to the Alexis Court home owned by Mercedes Macias and Sergio Ponce. The owners said the family rented the house. The family previously had lived in San Jose.
Macias said the girl's mother was not around when the family moved in. She said she was told that the mother was supposed to move in, but that never happened...
...On Sept. 15, 2005, Alycia's father had enrolled her at Central Valley High School, but she never attended, said Jay Simmonds, Ceres Unified School District spokesman...

Ponce said Alycia's family had a one-year rental agreement that expired Dec. 31, 2006, the day they moved out. He said Alycia's father barely mentioned his daughter's disappearance.
"He didn't say a lot about it," Ponce said. "He kind of looked upset and stressed out. He said they wanted to move back to the Bay Area."
The homeowners said they did not know where Alycia's father and her brother moved.
Two tenants have rented the Ceres home since then, Ponce said. The home has been vacant since the fall.
Judy Charlton, who lives across the street, said she remembers seeing Alycia in front of the home, but she did not remember seeing the girl's parents.
"(The residents in the neighborhood) didn't even know a girl was missing," Charlton said Friday. "I find it extremely strange that a girl was missing and we didn't see anyone, the family or police, knocking on doors looking for this girl."
Ceres Police Chief Art de Werk said Alycia was reported as a runaway, and there was no indication of foul play.
Extremely odd that nobody walked the neighborhood, including this child's father to ask about his daughter. I agree Kat,seems there is more to this story.
District officials on Oct. 6, 2005, received a request for Alycia's school records from Harbor High School in Santa Cruz, saying she was attending school there. Santa Cruz City School District officials did not return phone calls Friday afternoon.
It was unclear where Alycia was living while she attended school in Santa Cruz, but police have said she was living in Ceres when she went out of town for a weekend trip in August 2006 and never returned.

Dad is a suspect:
Ceres police, with help from the Los Angeles Police Department, served a search warrant at Mark Mesiti's Los Angeles home.
Investigators said they discovered a working methamphetamine lab in the home, so Mesiti and Welborn were taken into custody by Los Angeles authorities on drug and child endangerment charges. Welborn's 12-year-old daughter also lived at this home.
No charges have been filed against Mark Mesiti regarding the Alycia Mesiti case, Ceres police said. However, he is considered a possible suspect.

Ok, does anyone else find this odd? I hope this lady is still alive, KWIM? Also, I wonder if LE found her little chihuahua?
Police have not identified Alycia's mother, where she lived at the time of her daughter's disappearance or where she is today.

Discovery of Ceres' girl body only adds to mystery of case
Ceres warrant served in LA yields meth arrest for father
Police said a tip led them to dig in the home's back yard, but Berber on Monday declined to comment further about the tip.
Wednesday, detectives searched the house with help from the Sacramento County Search and Rescue K-9 Team. A police dog directed the detectives to an area in the back yard. A team of investigators converged at the home, including coroner's officials and evidence technicians from the state Department of Justice, Berber said.
Investigators found the girl's remains buried beneath the lawn just a few feet from a concrete patio, digging a pit about 6 feet by 6 feet wide, and about 4 feet deep.
Police would not say whether there were signs of trauma on the girl's body, how long they believe the body was buried behind the home or who they believe buried the body.
Stanislaus County district attorney's office investigators have urged Ceres police not to release further information about the case, Berber said.
The article also states it would take up to two months to find out the cause of death.

Los Angeles County Jail officials have released on bail one of two key figures in the homicide investigation of Alycia Mesiti, whose body was found last month buried in the back yard of a Ceres home where the 14-year-old lived when she disappeared more than two years ago.
Ceres police detectives were traveling to Los Angeles on Tuesday to question Shelly Walker-Welborn, 40, whom Ceres police consider a "person of interest" in Alycia's death.
The girl's father, Mark Edward Mesiti, 41, was being held Tuesday at the Los Angeles County Jail on $500,000 bail in an unrelated case.

CA - Alycia Mesiti - REMAINS LOCATED
This case makes me SOOOOOOOOOOOOO angry!!! If she was reported as a "runaway" when the father knew all along she was dead and buried in his own backyard....

I am interested in what ya'll think about this case. Alycia's father has been named a POI in her murder. He is in jail now for having a meth lab in his apartment. There is someone on another board who seems to be defending the father, but I personally believe he/she is attempting to pin this on someone else....who knows why???

I'm surprised he hasn't been arrested for her murder yet. Have they ever announced the cause of death?
Why would someone outside the home murder Alycia and bury her in her own backyard?

So where is the brother now? Is he with his mom? It appears LE got lucky with this. They let it set for 4 years - long enough for this man to go out and hook up with another woman with a teenage daughter. I hope she is okay.
Prayers for Alycia.

From what I was able to determine Salem, her brother is now 19 ( IIRC, he is her older brother by about two years)and serving in the United States Military.

I just read about this one in yesterday's paper. What a tragedy the dad was EVER given custody. He was clearly far more unfit than the mother. Couldn't they have given custody to extended family or foster care? Then poor Alycia would still be alive. The guy had a history of domestic abuse and drug abuse! Please help locate Mark Dribin http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sho...ht=Mark+Dribin and Ilene Misheloff http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sho...lene+Misheloff and bring them home.

Father charged with murder...
The short, tragic life of Alycia Augusta Mesiti-Allen ended at the hands of her father, prosecutors say.
Mark Edward Mesiti was charged last week with killing and molesting the 14-year-old girl in Ceres, a town outside Modesto, less than a year after a Santa Clara County judge put her in Mesiti's custody.
Another innocent child let down by the state. This POS should NEVER have had custody of Alycia and her brother.

Ex-Ceres Man Charged With Killing Daughter
The father of a 14-year-old girl whose remains were unearthed in a Ceres backyard has been charged with molesting and murdering her.
Authorities said Mark Mesiti, 41, killed his daughter, Alycia, less than a year after a judge placed the girl in his custody -- despite his long criminal history and reports that he neglected his children.
He has been charged with one count of murder, one count of child molestation and one count of sexual penetration by a foreign object while the victim was under the influence.

Thank you chico, but that made my head hurt this morning and made me sigh very deeply. Molested by her own father, raped with foreign object, and murdered and buried in the back yard covered with concrete.
I'm so sorry Alycia, rest in peace sweetie-pie.

This case is making headlines again because the father is about to go to trial. I find it odd that we aren't hearing more about the guy who was in jail (Ulrich?) for molesting Alycia. He was released THREE DAYS before she disappeared?!?!? Is anyone considering this man a suspect? This poor child. She'll be at peace when the killer is convicted. I just hope they are getting the right guy.

A case remains stalled for a father accused of sexually abusing and murdering his teenage daughter in Ceres. The girl’s body was found buried in her family’s backyard five years ago.
In August, a criminal grand jury indicted Mark Edward Mesiti in the death of his daughter, Alycia Mesiti. His arraignment has been postponed numerous times since then.
Mesiti appeared in court Wednesday afternoon. He told the judge that he wants to move forward with a motion seeking new court-appointed attorneys.
