Submerged Body Makes Investigation Tougher

"The body itself has all the evidence. Fingerprints are oil, they will smear. If there are fingerprints it'll be difficult to find," said the expert, who declined to be named publicly. "What else might be inside that suitcase? They'll have to look for trace fibers. If it's sealed, if water hasn't gotten in, that's wonderful. If it's your standard Samsonite, nope."

TRACY — The family of Sandra Cantu is expected to announce today their plans to hold public and private services for the little girl who was found dead inside a suitcase after disappearing from her home 11 days earlier.
Thousands of mourners have flocked to the mobile home park where Sandra lived, leaving stuffed animals, candles, poster, balloons and flowers at a makeshift memorial.
Family members said to honor the 8-year-old second-grader's memory they want to donate all of the plush toys, Easter baskets, dolls and other items to organizations benefitting children.
City crews began collecting the items late last night, a few hours after the family came out to see the memorial and to talk briefly to members of the press.
The cards and letters people have left there will also be gathered and given to the family.
The family also asked for volunteers to begin taking down all of the missing fliers that were put up in the search for Sandra, who was last seen near her home on March 27.
