Joseph Astuccio has been missing since April 1, 1992. Wenham Police are stepping up their search as they have recently received two leads on the case.

Seventeen years ago today, Sheila Astuccio reported her husband, Joseph K. Astuccio, missing from their home at 24 Rubbly Road, in Wenham. He had last been seen the day before, April 1, 1992, at Brown’s Square in Ipswich, collecting rent from tenants at buildings he owned.

The case has been considered cold for several years, but the Wenham Police Department has received two leads within the last month and is stepping up the search for Astuccio and what may have become of him.

    and

Through modern technology and new missing person databases, the department has learned Astuccio may have worked at a bakery in Peabody in the mid-1990s, and another lead reveals that he may have lived in Holiday, Fla. The bakery owner, who Walsh did not want to identify, is searching the personnel records to determine whether Astuccio may have been employed.

    and

Complicating the case is that Astuccio went by several aliases before he disappeared, including Gioseppi Astuccio, Joseph M. Astuccio, Kevin Astuccio and Kevin J. Astuccio.

One week after Astuccio disappeared, police received word of a possible sighting of him at Logan Airport, boarding a Continental Airlines flight to Orlando, Fla. The airline did not have a record of Astuccio flying that day.
“But somebody could’ve seen him at the airport, standing next to the terminal … getting ready to go on another flight somewhere,” Walsh said.

On April 20, 1992, Astuccio’s 1987 Cadillac Roadster was found near the landfill in Middleton, with broken windows and a damaged ignition.

Astuccio’s hat, coat and appointment book were the only items left in the car, Walsh said. After dusting the vehicle for fingerprints, none but Astuccio’s were found.

Fascinating.....the article dosn't give any hints as to why he may have been living under an assumed name at all.

His last name appears mostly in Mass. I found a few in NC and FL.

Where did he come up with the name Gioseppi. I only found one listing with that first name attached to a different last name.

Wonder if he was involved with the "mob"?
