MA - Dorothy Ann (Guest) Delaney, Gilbertsville, Jan 1965

My Grandmother Dorothy Ann Delaney (GUEST) went missing in January of 1965.

Her last known address was in Gilbertsville Mass.

I am trying to find out what happened to her.
I have her date of birth and that is about it.

There was a file opened on her as a missing person by her brother inlaw who was at the time a On the Police force in a local town. Also there was some FBI envolvement.

There is speculation that she may have had a bad ending.

Where should i begin in trying to locate her or her burial spot ?

    Thank you

    Welcome to WS, kdkpboylan.

Am sorry to read of your Grandmother's situation. You will find support and resources here to help you in your search to find her.

How old was you GM at the time she went missing? Have you checked the Social Security Death Index as yet? If not here is the URL: http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi
There are a few Dorothy A Delaney listed. You can check your GM's birth date against those listed.

Hi KDKPBoylan - Have you contacted the local police dept to see if they still have the original police report?

Do you have any family members still living who remember your grandmother and the circumstances around her disappearence? Was she married?

There are several Dorothy A. Delaney's in the SS Death Index for MA you might want to look at. Do you know her birthday?

I am bumping this one to see if anything has developed in the last 6 years! I have also done a bit of checking.

Almost certainly this is Dorothy Delaney who lived in Maple Street, Hardwick with her husband Robert and mother in law in the 1940 census. She was 20 at the time, so born 1920, whilst he was 10 years older, born 3 May 1910. Gilbertsville is a village attached to Hardwick and no more than about 2 miles from Maple Street, so this is consistent. I could not find any other candidates in the area. Both Robert and Dorothy are listed as born in Massachusetts. There is a marriage record for Robert Patrick Delaney in Hardwick in 1936, which seems likely to be right, especially as there is a matching record for Dorothy Ann Guest in the same year (misfiled as Quest in Ancestry, but clearly Guest on the original file). Robert died in 1984. Robert and Dorothy had at least 2 children (Robert and Michael, info from obituary of Robert Jr).

    Any ideas anyone?
