Winchester boy missing in Potomac River
A search continues for a Winchester area boy presumed dead after he fell in the Potomac River Sunday afternoon.
Police also are looking for a second person witnesses say dove in after the boy and did not resurface.
Jorge Castro, 11, slipped on some rocks by Chain Bridge Road on the Virginia side of the river just before 5 p.m., according to Lt. Paul Niepling, with the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department's harbor patrol. Jorge fell into the river, which then swept him away, Niepling said Tuesday.
"His father jumped in after him as well and he was unsuccessful. He had to be rescued himself," Niepling said. "As soon as it happened, people started calling 911 and we responded on up there from our base."
A boat from a local fire and rescue crew aided in the search, according to Niepling.
The boy, his father and the second person to dive in after the child were fishing by the bridge, Niepling said.
What started as a rescue Sunday has become a recovery operation, Niepling said, adding that the boy's body has not yet been recovered.

The body of an adult male was found around 9:30 a.m., approximately 400 yards south of Chain Bridge Road on the District side, said Officer Helen Andrews.
Based on interviews with witnesses, police believe Hau T. Nguyen, 37, jumped into the river to try to help the boy.
