CT - Jody King, 28, Enfield, 20 April 2008 - Missing after car crash #1

Here is the previous thread in the Missing Information forum:
    http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83753

Jody disappeared after allegedly crashing his truck on the northbound side of 91, exit 48 in CT on April 20, 2009. Jody is the father of 3, including a newborn and his family is having a very difficult time getting the media to pick up this story. The facts as we know them as related by family:
    • The crash was called in at 9PM by a witness who then reported the driver of the vehicle fled into the nearby woods.
    • There was another occupant of the vehicle who was questioned and released. Police would like to question this person again but they are having trouble locating him.
    • Jody was reportedly disoriented after the crash.
    • At 10PM, police contacted Jody's wife alerting her to the accident.
    • On 4/21/09 Jody's wife filed a missing persons report.
    • A subsequent search of the crash site uncovered Jody's "personal effects" about 100 yards into the woods from where the vehicle was recovered.
    • Jody does not have his cell phone or his wallet with him.
    • There has been an ongoing canine search of the woods near the crash and some commercial property near by.
    • The vehicle was released to the insurance company and subsequently impounded by the state police.
    • Jody was intending to stay at a coworkers home the night of the crash.
    • Jody had a few beers with coworkers in New Haven prior to getting into his vehicle and having the accident.

there is too little info out there right now to make an educated guess, but those who are familiar with the Billy Smolinski case will understand the level of anxiety around how seriously this case was taken from the beginning and how important it is to dig deeply into it now.

Believe09 - I just read about Billy's case - how awful. I hope this doesn't turn out to be something like that.

Too often adults, especially males, are not seriously looked for when they disappear.

We need to raise awareness in the area between the bar and the crash site-what if Jody broke into someone's shed and took some tools, clothing, boots, food??? People are only now going to dig out their gardening tools...any and all broken locks etc should be checked out. Not to mention dogs barking, strange sounds from that night. I mean the clock is ticking here.

Beyond that, what if he WAS carjacked or picked up a hitchhiker etc??? Again, he left the bar and the truck crashed-somewhere in between those two points is the answer. There is a finite period of time we are dealing with; if it was Jody driving, how far could he possibly have gotten on foot without being noticed? If it was not Jody driving, then where was he between leaving the bar and the truck crashing????

Have the police located his passenger?
What did the passenger have to say after the accident? The only thing I found online was that he said, Jody was disoriented. Well. That would be evident.
Had a couple of drinks. Driving. Accident. But why run?
And then personal effects found 100 yards away?
    What personal effects? cell? wallet?
What about the other people at the bar? Did the passenger leave with him?
    Security tape at the bar?
How much gas in the truck? When was the truck last gassed up? If within a couple of hours then, the gas station security tapes might be helpful?

It has been 14 days now.
Prayers for Jody and his family.

this case is sooo perplexing! The part that I get hung up on is the fact that people witnessed him walking away from the accident disoriented.. If he were injured he would not be far... and what caused him to drop his personal items in the woods? Something just is not right here. They REALLY need to find that other passenger that was in the truck!

My bold and italics, DW-excellent points. A person named wow on the topix board drew a lot of heat for typing something about Jody being seen at a gas station with someone prior to the crash. But now I am wondering about the statements made; they are numbers 105 and 115...

Are you familiar with the area where the crash occured? Between exit 48 and 49 Northbound on 91...there is a commercial business and a residential area nearby that borders woods.

If you are familiar with it, would someone disoriented who entered the woods be able to find their way out of it, or is it pretty thick? Is is swampy? It was just before 9PM at night.

I ask because I am wondering if he could have wandered into someone's yard, or taken shelter in a dumpster at the business....

Its not swampy at all in this area, and would not be easy to get lost in that area. My parents live a half mile from where his belongings were found. This area is only less than a mile away from the Massachusette Border.

How fast could a man disappear? The truck crashes. He is seen by his passenger, disoriented and running toward the woods. Police are there soon. No sign of him.
Are the police sure it was him?
Were fingerprints taken of the steering wheel and door handles?
Were there other eyewitnesses to this accident?
    Why did the vehicle crash?

Was there security cameras at the bar where he had met with co workers and had a couple of drinks? Did he leave there with anyone? What do the co workers have to say?

Part of the story says he was going to stay at a co workers home that night? Where does the co worker live?
    How far away?

I read that his wife says he was working in New Haven and going to stay at a friends house in Meriden. He should not of been anywhere near Enfield.

Eye witnesses at the bar and the surveillance camera match with who Jody left with, I have been told.

I would think the ID of the driver at the crash might be a little suspect-I mean if a truck crashes in front of you on the hwy, at least one of you is moving at a certain amount of speed. I do not know if the witness to the crash was driving as well, but I guess I assumed so.

So, if it was Jody and the woods around that area are pretty simple to navigate, where did he go with no personal effects including cell phone and wallet?

If it wasn't Jody driving the car, then the last actual sighting we know of is Jody at the bar in New Haven, 2 hours and 13 minutes before the crash...or thereabouts.

I have read the topix board for Jody....seems like he is a good guy with a great family that really misses him. I hope that someone...like Nancy Grace will put this out in the media.....I hope they find him soon.

Maybe Jody wasn't even in the car when it crashed. Maybe the "passenger" and another person did away with him earlier but kept some of his personal effects to ditch somewhere else, and the crash was the opportune time to do so. Hope they test whatever was found of Jody's for DNA that isn't his!
Just thinking out of the box here.....
