NAMUS/IdentifyUS is looking for platforms to educate families, law enforcement and medical examiners on the centralized databases established for missing persons and UID's. Please provide the following link for your contacts regardless of whether or not the case is cold:
https://www.findthemissing.org/

"This site provides an opportunity for families, law enforcement agencies and investigators to search nationwide for missing persons using a variety of powerful search features. Anyone may search the database, but by registering in the system both law enforcement professionals and the general public will also be able to:
  • Add new missing persons cases
  • Add physical and circumstantial details, photographs, dental contacts and other critical pieces of information to a case
  • Create and print missing persons posters
  • Track multiple cases as information is added to the system
With your help, we can increase the number of missing persons cases solved each year providing closure for families and law enforcement officials nationwide."

In order to maintain the integrity of the data entered, NAMUS wants to limit the people entering the information to those who have the most accurate resources-please encourage your contacts to make sure their cases are entered.

Believe, do I contact the LE in charge of the investigation and respectfully request they enter the missing person into the Namus database? TIA for advice.

Let's get these cases into NAMUS. NAMUS has 15,072 active cases in it's database.

15,072.

There are routinely 800K people missing on the books in any given year.

Please register on the NAMUS website and get your cases in there. They will be assigned to a NAMUS case manager who will reach out to you or LE to make sure the maximum amount of information is entered.

This database runs against the John and Jane Doe databases. We have to utilize the technology available to maximize the results we need to make a difference. Please take the burden off of cash strapped LE. We need to beef up this database so it can work the way it is intended too.

I will spread the word about NAMUS. It is a wonderful tool for missing and unidentified persons. Many families of the colder cases are unaware of NAMUS because we didn't have the technology then that we have today. I just entered my 1985 case this year because I was unaware of NAMUS. I will be sure to provide the link to all my contacts.

I've entered a case into NAMUS and its status has been marked as "restricted", can anyone clue me in on what this means? This person has been missing since November and there is both a NCMEC case number and MSM articles concerning the missing person. TIA!

Did you ever find out what that means. I entered someone for a family member of the missing person and now it says restricted. Did it ever get posted?

I've entered several cases into NamUs. It used to be that when you submitted, it would show up as "Pending" but recently are showing as "Restricted". They did end up being posted for public viewing.

Edited to add: just as an aside, I still have two cases showing as Pending. One I entered 2/25/19 and the other way back on 2/6/12. When cases are/were Pending, the submitter could still open the case but with the new Restricted, you can't. So I'm thinking the new Restricted actually means the case is restricted even to person who submitted it until it is made publicly viewable.

Hi I looked on NAMUS to see if Madisson Lambert had been entered but I am not finding her on there. How does that work? Thanks.

I just entered my Uncle's missing person's case on NamUs last evening, and I went back into my dashboard today and it is restricted. I cannot open or view it. I tried to search their system for my Uncle, but he is not showing in their database. I had reached out to LSU's Faces Lab, who stated that they will coordinate or somehow work with NamUs for their entry system, as well. If anyone can enlighten me on these processes, I would be grateful. It is overwhelming on top of being at a loss due to my missing family member.
