On the Oprah show - the McCanns said about they went to check on Madeleine - then added afterwards oh and the twins.

In this interview with Charlotte Pennington she says that she was one of the first on the scene and that the twins were not there. Yet we know when the Pjs got there that the twins were there as they commented that they were in "a deep sleep".

My personal opinion is they wasnt at the apartment while the parents were out in case they happened to find there sister and were brought back before the Pjs got there.

Also Pennington contradicts the claim made by Kate on Oprah that she did not say "They have taken her" - this was something supposedly said in the bar when she went to raise the alarm.

If the twins were drugged they could be carried anywhere without waking up. The focus of the PJ was a missing child and not two sleeping toddlers in their beds even though they should have waken up from the noise of so many in the apartment.

Oh i know...but Charlotte Pennington the creche worker claims she was one of the first on the scene and says the twins werent there..and yet they were when the pjs got there some time later. The parents said they went to check Madeleine and then after a pause said oh and the twins..which suggests the twins may not in fact have been there the whole n ight IMO

It would explain why Kate was able to leave the apartment to go back to the restaurant to sound the alarm about the missing Madeleine. It's always been a point of contention that she would leave the twins sleeping to go back in person--instead of calling. Why wouldn't she call right then and there?

So if the twins weren't actually in the apartment, that would explain why she went back--and the twins were brought back in that time period.

It would also explain why the McCanns didn't want the twins awakened. They really didn't want the twins to talk at all--no matter what their language abilities were at the time. It explains why Kate could run from the apartment with no fear for her remaining two children.

So where were the twins, if they weren't in the apartment? If all the children were in one apartment, wouldn't that be a lot easier for baby listening? (And no Mrs. Fenn to call the resort authorities.)

In the Obriens apartment maybe while apartment 5a was set up for the big disappearance?

Kate never really seemed to want to admit if Madeleine was asleep when she left that night or not? So was it because a) Madeleine was already dead or b) cos she went out knowing she was awake.

Depending..on what happened to Madeleine happening before or after they went out..maybe they couldnt risk the twins finding Madeleine.

The McCanns were protecting the twins they loved and wanted vs. Madeleine who they didn't.

If the twins were in the O'Brien's apartment, it would explain why Kate went back to the restaurant instead of going next door for help.

Although to be fair, we're relying on Charlottoe Pennington's word that the twins were not there, and she's not the most reliable sounding person in the world, either.

Bingo. Although to be fair, I really believe that Madeleine was just so much more difficult and challenging from the get-go than the twins. In terms of temperament, Kate seems to have been challenged so much by Maddie--but not Gerry, which could have been difficult.

Sadly, though, as Maddie was growing older, it seems as if Kate was beginning to realize that the difficult child would perhaps also be the one who needed/loved her the most--based on Kate's most recent statements.

Heartbreaking.

I think that Madeleine was probably already dead & the twins were taken elsewhere so the whole thing could be set up! It makes absolutely no sense that a mother would think that a child had been abducted then leave an open apartment with two other vulnerable children unattended to run the whole distance to the Tapas bar! I do not believe that the twins were in that apartment!

Exactly.

Here's a story from the London Times which has always puzzled me. Why put all the kids in one apartment- other than making it easier to "check" on them?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/crime/article2621809.ece

Police believe that Madeleine and her twin brother and sister may not have
been alone in the McCann holiday apartment, but that the children of seven British friends who were on holiday with the McCanns were also present when Madeleine disappeared on May 3, the 24 Horas newspaper claimed.
...
However, a source within the investigation was quoted by 24 Horas as saying: “It’s not only the collected evidence that points to the fact that there were more children inside that [the McCanns'] apartment.

“Evidence also exists, following the interrogations to the other people who that were at the Ocean Club, that only the McCanns’ apartment was visited by the people who attended the dinner

This would explain why there were so many comings and goings by the various Tapas members- they were removing their own children from the McCann apartment before the police arrived...

And if Mrs. Upstairs Neighbor had complained about one crying child on previous nights, why would they put all those kiddies in one apartment? Unless they were sure that the children were so soundly asleep that they wouldn't cry...

But wouldn't there be witnesses noticing the parents moving children from apartment to apartment?
