That is so tragic that someone served 13 years for one of the deaths. This killer has been doing this for a long time with a decade in between killings. Incarceration is unlikely because of no DNA in the system. So why the long breaks, or did he live somewhere else?

The first two deaths happened on October 10th and 11th in 1986. The next two were in 1995, another was in 1997 and the most recent was in April 2007.
and from the first link that was posted in OP:

Based on these new DNA results, police are submitting, and in some cases, re-submitting DNA from 24 more unsolved cases of prostitutes.
Yes Suzi it is so disheartening that someone innocent spent time in prison for a crime that he didn't commit, I agree.

I bet you're right nursie, I bet there are more victims found once the DNA is run again.

Two decades is a long time from first known victim to last, but I wonder what the new tests will reveal?

This case reminds me of the West Mesa case in that the victims were at high risk by their lifestyle choices and IMHO the victims that fall into that high risk category are often marginalized by the community and possibly LE in using resources to find the man or men that has murdered them. I thought to bring it here so that these victims and families can see that they will get the recognition they so deserve.

I was surprised there is no thread for these murders in Milwaukee.

Why does this remind me of another group of killings of prostitutes, several found close together in a river very close to town? I think they happened in about 2003, not sure exactly, but now I can't find that case either!

Arrest Made In WI Serial Killings Of Prostitutes That Go Back 20 Years:

Milwaukee police have arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with the killing of at least six prostitutes over 21 years in the city, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

The suspect, Walter E. Ellis of Milwaukee, was arrested at noon Saturday at a hotel in Franklin by a swarm of police officers, the sources said. A witness confirmed a large number of officers descended on the hotel for an arrest.

Ellis was booked on a temporary felony warrant and was being questioned Sunday by detectives in the Milwaukee police Prisoner Processing Section, the sources said.

Milwaukee newspaper reported Monday that local police had arrested a suspect in connection with the killings of seven women, including six suspected prostitutes, over a 21-year period that started in 1986.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the suspect, a 49-year-old Milwaukee man, was arrested Saturday and booked on a temporary felony warrant...

...Police Chief Edward Flynn and Milwaukee County district attorney John Chisholm announced a new investigation four months ago after DNA evidence linked the women's deaths to one person. Police said then that they never stopped investigating the cases, but scored a major breakthrough when DNA technology suggested the same person killed six of the women and had sex with the seventh...

...Ellis' DNA has been found on at least seven females killed between 1986 and 2007, the sources said...

...The State Crime Laboratory also has been processing DNA found on two dozen slain prostitutes to see if there is a match with Ellis...

...Court records show Ellis once lived close to the area where many of the homicides occurred.

Ellis was criminally charged 12 times between 1981 and 1998 for violent and property crimes, according to online court records.

Ellis' last felony conviction was in 1998. Ellis was sentenced to five years in prison for recklessly endangering safety, according to court records. Further details of that case were not available. Of the seven victims who have been linked to Ellis, none was killed between 1998 and 2006...

...There also was a gap between 1987 and 1994. Online records show Ellis was released from federal prison in December 1992. Details about that case were not available Sunday...
It looks like this reporter did his homework. Kudos to him.

Thank you for posting this. The article does not give his name but here is a link to the mil. jail bookings, it says he's 49 so perhaps we can figure out if he is on this list.

How sad it took so many years, it sounds like he used the same area to dump the bodies

Info on the teen that the suspects DNA was found upon. LE is stating they believe another man may be responsible for her death.

I am glad they are running this suspects DNA through the database.

The State Crime Laboratory is in the process of checking to see if Ellis's DNA can be linked to the deaths of over 20 other prostitutes in addition to the seven that he has been identified as the chief suspect in.

Also reminds me of the six murders of prostitutes here in N.C. They are now going back at least 10 years looking at other cases that could be related.
