    Hunter stumbles across skeletal remains

HARRIS COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - A day in the Harris County woods ended with a grim discovery for one local turkey hunter.

Instead of finding a trophy gobbler on Memorial Day, he stumbled across a skull investigators say appears to be human.

The discovery was made in the woods off Georgia Highway 18 in Harris County, not far from Interstate 185 South Exit 34 for Pine Mountain/West Point.

    an update:
Since then, searchers have scoured the area around I-185 and Ga. 18 — near Exit 34 — finding leg bones, a skull and part of a pelvis.

“An additional pelvic bone was found (Wednesday),” said Rodney Wall, Georgia Bureau of Investigation special agent in charge. “We don’t know if this is a man or a woman. We have no idea on race at this time.”

    Backlog could delay identification

The human bones found off Interstate 185 this week have not been identified, but authorities hope DNA tests will offer more clues about the remains.

“We have to get more information from the lab on the race, sex and origin,” said Rodney Wall, Georgia Bureau of Investigation special agent in charge. More at link: http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/news/story/732837.html

    Possible identities:

    From WALB (with videos)

Like the case of 61-year-old Alton Moss from Meriwether County who was last seen in 2005. Investigators believe foul play was involved in his disappearance.

Then, there's the case of Pamela Hixson who left her Talbot County home 3 years ago and hasn't been seen since.

In Harris County, authorities are still looking for 28-year-old Christopher Thompkins, who was last seen walking away from his job site in Ellerslie in 2002.

"There's missing persons cases in this area that we know of that working out of this office but there's also missing persons cases that we're aware of throughout the state. And we'll also have to consider any cases that are across the line into Alabama," added Special Agent Wall.

GBI asks for help identifying Harris Co. human remains

I think that this is the same UI. The article says she was found on May 25 2009, not May 27 as in NAMUS, but everything else looks correct.

HARRIS COUNTY, GA - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is asking for your help identifying human skeletal remains found in Harris County three years ago.

GBI forensic artists have released a photograph--they believe those remains belong to a woman resembling a constructed model.

"It appeared to be a black female in her late 30's, so we are making leeway slowly but surely in the identification and solving of this crime," Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley says.

It kind of concerns/puzzles me that the GBI has this UID on its web site twice, with different discovery dates listed...? I'm sure there's a reason, but...?

At the second link, its says investigators at one time thought the remains might be those of a missing woman from Talbot County (GA) but DNA ruled that out.

Also wanted to point out that where the remains were found is at the Georgia-Alabama boundary -- so she easily could have been from Alabama.
