SHERIFFS OFFICE INVESTIGATING ALLEGATION THAT
GEORGE AND CINDY ANTHONY FOLLOWED WOMEN WHO PLACED
A MEMORIAL CROSS NEAR CAYLEE ANTHONY RECOVERY LOCATION
The Orange County Sheriffs Office is currently investigating an allegation that George and Cindy Anthony chased four females from the area where the remains of Caylee Anthony were located. The four women had apparently driven to the location on Suburban Drive to replace a memorial cross that had been removed. After replacing the cross they remained in the area to see if they could determine who was removing their memorials to Caylee. At approximately 10:30 PM last night, June 1, 2009, they observed a white female exit a black vehicle that had driven up to the location and remove the cross they had recently placed there.
As the black SUV drove by the location where the females had parked one of them snapped a flash picture of the vehicle as it drove by. After taking the picture the females drove away from the area allegedly with the black SUV in pursuit. The exact route of the chase and the speeds driven by the two vehicles has not been determined at this time. At approximately 10:39 PM one of the women in the fleeing car made a 9-1-1 call to the Sheriffs Office alleging that they were being chased by George and Cindy Anthony near Lee Vista Boulevard. The women continued their attempt to flee the Anthony vehicle until they were able to flag down a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper a few minutes after making the 9-1-1 call. They terminated their call with the Sheriffs Office when they made contact with the State Trooper.
The women came to the Sheriffs Office late this afternoon to file a formal complaint regarding this incident and provide their statements to detectives investigating their allegations. The case is currently the subject of an ongoing investigation. We will readdress all requests for the 9-1-1 call relating to this case tomorrow and will have no additional details regarding this complaint this evening.
