On June 30, 2007, the Ottawa Police Service discovered the bodies of Alban Garon, Raymonde Garon, and Marie-Claire Beniskos in apartment 1002 located at 1510 Riverside Drive. The Ottawa Police Major Crime Section began a criminal investigation immediately and assembled a comprehensive investigative team. The investigation revealed that all three persons were murdered. The team continues to investigate the incident.
The Ottawa Police Service is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the male person featured in the accompanying composite sketch (picture attached). Investigators have been unable to locate this person and believe he may be able to assist in providing information concerning the triple homicide. This person was observed in the elevator at 1510 Riverside Drive on Friday, June 29, 2007 between 10:00 am and 11:00 am.
He is described as a white male in his early 40's, approximately 5'8" (172 cm) in height and weighing approximately 180 lbs (81 kgs). His hair, which is short, is black with some grey. He was clean-shaven and has a broad nose. At the time, he was wearing a white short sleeve shirt with blue vertical stripes and dark pants.
The Ottawa Police Service is requesting the person represented in the composite sketch, and/or anyone who may be able to assist in identifying who this person is, to contact the Ottawa Police immediately. Cold Cases

The present Ottawa Police Service was formed in 1995 by the amalgamation of the Ottawa Police, Gloucester Police and Nepean Police Services. In 2000, policing in the outlying areas of the City were assumed from the Ontario Provincial Police creating a patrol territory roughly the same size as the Province of Prince Edward Island. A review of the criminal records in the amalgamation process revealed that there were thirty-two incidents of suspected homicide dating back as far as 1962.

Cold cases linger in police files
Ottawa detectives still looking for leads in unsolved killings (Last Updated: January 30, 2011 2:00am)

There is no designated cold case unit in Ottawa. Instead, all the unsolved cases — including homicides and some missing persons files — are spread among the force’s 17 major crime investigators.

It takes patience to work the cases, the investigator said. Sometimes the most minute, trivial detail can help.

What does it take? Dedication, the investigator said

“Because in many cases the (original) investigators are retired it takes some time for (new) investigators as they pick these files up to dig into them and become familiar with them,” he said.

“I don’t think it’s something that they dread, I think they look at it more as a challenge.”

But nothing is more challenging than the delicate relationships that develop with the families of victims — families waiting for answers.
