Teacher's aide faces 96 student sex charges
SALISBURY -- A teacher's assistant at Wicomico Middle School has been charged with having sex with six male students between the ages of 12 and 16 over a period of more than eight months, according to Wicomico County law enforcement officials.
Lindsay Renee Allen of Hudson Drive in Salisbury faces 96 counts of sexual assault, child abuse and perversion, according to Wicomico Child Advocacy Center officials.
Allen, 22, was released Wednesday from the Wicomico County Detention Center after posting a $100,000 bond, according to Detective Sgt. Steve Mathews of the county Sheriff's Office, who is also the law enforcement supervisor at the county's child advocacy center.
Most of the sexual encounters allegedly occurred at Allen's home, where the special education aide resides with her 2-year-old daughter and a roommate, said Elizabeth Ireland, the Wicomico State's Attorney's prosecutor handling the case.
Mathews said none of the alleged sex acts occurred at the school, though at least one incident took place at one boy's residence.
A 16-year-old student at Wicomico Middle School told investigators he engaged in sex with Allen at least 10 times between May and June, according to a report by Sheriff's Office Detective Kendall West, a child advocacy center investigator.
A second student, age 15, told officials he engaged in intercourse with Allen on two occasions at her home and also told police he was present when Allen had sex with another 12-year-old student, according to investigators.
In the report, Allen said she had three of the students -- ages 12, 14 and 15 -- at her house June 6. She admitted to having repeated sex with all three, according to investigators.
"This came to our attention on June 4 by accident," Mathews said during a news conference Thursday.
Wicomico County Sheriff R. Hunter Nelms said a student informed the school's resource officer, who contacted child advocacy detectives.
"We got wind that a teacher was having sex with students and we investigated," Mathews said.
Ireland said Thursday the alleged incidents began in October and continued until Allen was apprehended this week.
Allen, a Wor-Wic Community College graduate, began working at Wicomico Middle School at the start of this school year, Ireland said. "I'm just very glad that this behavior was identified before she got too much further into her career as an educator," Ireland said. "She was also a mentor, and a child is entitled to look up to a teacher and see them as a role model."
