The boat belonging to an overdue boater has been found but he was not with it, the Coast Guard said.

The 28-foot Grady White boat Michael Dodick took out for a fishing trip was found washed up on the beach along Camp Lejeune Friday afternoon but there were no signs of Dodick, said Lt. j.g. Scott Hembrook.

Dodick, Michael

Michael J. Dodick, 66, of Statesville, was lost at sea off the North Carolina coast on July 9, 2009. Born in Bay City, Mich., on Aug. 11, 1942, he was the son of Mildred and the late Louis Dodick of Michigan. He was the eldest of eight children. Mr. Dodick graduated from Michigan State University with a Master of Business Administration degree and was at one time the president of the Spring Hope, N.C., Kiwanis Club. He was the owner of Premier Wood Products in Statesville. Mr. Dodick is survived by his former wife of 40 years, Joanne Dodick, of Statesville; his son, Commander Michael J. Dodick, USN, and wife, Anissa, of Mandeville, La.; grandchildren, Katherine and Jud; a daughter, Michelle Renee Dodick, of Statesville; and his fiance, Kathy Hayes, of Mocksville. Mr. Dodick was an avid fisherman, and was a former member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Statesville. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 24, at Holy Family Catholic Church, in Clemmons. Memorials may be made to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, Statesville, or to Holy Family Catholic Church, Clemmons.
