BRADENTON, Fla. — Police are searching for the masked intruders who kicked in the door of a Bradenton apartment and fatally shot a 19-year-old pregnant woman, causing the death of her baby.

Crystal Johnson was seven months pregnant. Authorities said she was shot once in the neck by the intruders who kicked the door down early Sunday and started firing.

She died at a hospital. Her baby girl was delivered and lived on a respirator for two hours.

I wonder if they were planning on killing everyone but were stopped when the bf started shooting or if they meant to kill only the pregnant woman. I guess we'll have to wait to find out the motive for this horrible crime.

Suspect in pregnant teen's murder on trial

BRADENTON, Fla - Susan Moore's granddaughter Lariah should have been starting school this Fall. Moore knows because she counts all the milestones she has missed since her pregnant daughter was fatally shot five years ago.

Now, the second man accused in the killing is set to stand trial Monday in Manatee County.

"It's just a hard pain you can never get over as a mother, losing a child, especially if you have to watch that child pass," said Moore.

The retrial of a Everrick Houston charged with the fatal shooting a 19-year-old pregnant woman has not yet been set. Houston, 33, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed burglary. If convicted Houston faces life in prison.

In the early morning hours of July 12, 2009, Crystal Johnson was shot when at least two men burst into the home she shared with her mother, sister and boyfriend. Lawrence Funsch, Johnson's boyfriend and the father of her unborn baby, exchanged gunfire with the intruders. Johnson was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital where she died. Her baby was delivered via emergency C-section and taken to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg where she died eight hours later.

On Nov. 25, after 10 hours of deliberations Monday and Tuesday, Circuit Judge John Lakin ruled a mistrial in the case against Houston after the jury were unable to reach a unanimous vote.

BRADENTON -- Waiting for justice over the past seven years since her daughter and unborn grandchild were killed has been a long, hard journey, Susan Moore says.

It was in the early morning hours of July 12, 2009, when Moore was almost asleep in the DeSoto Square apartment she shared with her two daughters and one of their boyfriends when a loud boom signaled the violence to come.

She shouted at the sound of as many as three men kicking open their front door. The men immediately began spraying the apartment with bullets. By the time she reached her doorway, Moore said, the men were already inside. She stood next to an entertainment center just outside her door, watching little flashes of fire and hearing what sounded like firecrackers.

In the dim illumination from a night light, Moore said she saw two men, one taller than the other and both wearing dark clothing. Frozen in fear, Moore stood as her younger daughter, Brittany Johnson, ran around her to go check on her sister, Crystal, who was six-months pregnant.

"Mama, Crystal's been hit!" Moore said Brittany shrieked. "What do you mean?" she responded. Brittany said, "She's been shot."
